The opening ceremony of Tokyo Games 2020 commemorated the victims of the terror attack at the Munich Olympics, 1972. A moment of silence was observed to pay tribute to the 11 Israeli athletes killed by Palestinian gunmen in 1972. Families of the victims had been urging Olympic organizers to honour them at an opening ceremony and finally, this demand was met at the Olympic games of 2020.
