Actress Whoopi Goldberg has once again stated that the Holocaust was not related to race less than a year after she was suspended from ABC\u2019s daytime talk show\u00a0The View<\/em>\u00a0for making similar remarks.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 67-year-old, who was born Caryn Elaine Johnson and has no Jewish ancestry, said in an interview with the British publication\u00a0The Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0on Saturday that the Nazi-orchestrated genocide of 6 million Jews led by Adolf Hitler was \u201cwhite on white\u201d violence, and that Jews were not targeted because of their race.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRemember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical. They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision,\u201d said the Oscar-nominated actress, who plays the mother of civil rights activist Mamie Till-Mobley in the new film\u00a0Till.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Commenting on her Jewish-sounding stage name, Goldberg\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0in 2011 that she personally identifies with Judaism and feels Jewish. She told\u00a0The Times<\/em>\u00a0on Saturday that her stage name comes from a \u201cdistant Jewish ancestor.\u201d She added, \u201cMy best friend said, \u2018Not for nothing is there no box on the census for the Jewish race. So that leads me to believe that we\u2019re probably not a race.’\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When the interviewer, Janice Turner, pushed back by telling Goldberg, \u201cNazis saw Jews as a race,\u201d the actress responded: \u201cYes, but that\u2019s the killer, isn\u2019t it? The oppressor is telling you what you are. Why are you believing them? They\u2019re Nazis. Why believe what they\u2019re saying?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Turner asked, \u201cBut since the Nazis devised racial laws aimed specifically at Jews, wasn\u2019t the Holocaust about race?\u201d and the actress responded, saying, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t originally.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Goldberg added, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street. You could find me. You couldn\u2019t find them. That was the point I was making. But you would have thought that I\u2019d taken a big old stinky dump on the table, butt naked,\u201d referring to her controversial comments on\u00a0The View.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

She also suggested that while the Nazis additionally targeted people of African descent because they were different physically, Jews had an easier time blending in with White people and hiding from the Nazis than Black people.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goldberg was\u00a0suspended<\/a>\u00a0for two weeks from\u00a0The View<\/em>\u00a0in January when she said on-air that the Holocaust \u201cwas\u00a0not about race,<\/a>\u201d but rather about \u201cman\u2019s inhumanity to man,\u201d during a discussion with her co-hosts. She said, \u201cIf you\u2019re going to do this, then let\u2019s be truthful about it,\u201d before trying to explain that \u201cthese [Jews and Nazis] are two white groups of people.\u201d After being criticized for her remarks, Goldberg\u00a0apologized<\/a>\u00a0on social media and on the next day\u2019s episode of\u00a0The View.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Her latest comments on Saturday have again received backlash including from Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), who\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0on Twitter, \u201cAntisemitism is anti-Jewish racism. Period. Claiming the Holocaust had nothing to do with racism is historical revisionism at its worst.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

International Legal Forum CEO Arsen Ostrovsky similarly\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0about Goldberg\u2019s incendiary remarks, \u201cSo, after supposed \u2018apology\u2019 earlier in year, Whoopi Goldberg doubles down on her vile remarks that the Holocaust was not about race, and instead \u2018white on white\u2019 violence. Someone get this ignorant fool off the air!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ari Ingel, director of\u00a0the<\/span><\/span>\u00a0entertainment industry non-profit organization Creative Community for Peace,<\/em>\u00a0said<\/a>, \u201cAntisemitism deeply ingrained in Whoopi Goldberg. She learned nothing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
