11 Democratic and Republican members of Congress on Monday called for the firing of the UN\u2019s special rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese, for her \u201coutrageous\u201d antisemitic statements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEnough is enough,\u201d the letter, led by Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA), reads. \u201cMs. Albanese\u2019s comments are only the latest in a pattern of antisemitic behavior and rhetoric at the UN, which is obsessively focused on the world\u2019s only Jewish state.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The letter, which was addressed to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, cites Albanese\u2019s comments and writings over the past 10 years, including a 2014 letter in which she claimed America was \u201csubjugated by the Jewish lobby\u201d and her 2022 remarks to a Hamas conference in Gaza where she told the terrorist group\u2019s attendees that\u00a0they \u201chave a right to resist this occupation.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0Albanese has repeatedly asserted a Palestinian \u201cright to resist\u201d, including\u00a0during the latest round of indiscriminate rocket fire\u00a0from Gaza in August. \u201cAn unlawful act of resistance does not make the resistance unlawful,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Albanese, whose formal title is \u201cSpecial Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967\u201d and who was appointed to a six-year term in May, has refused to apologize for any of her remarks, and says that her statement about the US being subjugated by Jews was \u201cwrongly mischaracterized as antisemitic.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Monday\u2019s letter also criticizes the fact that Israel was subject to more UN General Assembly resolutions in 2022 than all other nations combined, and that it is the only country subjected to two open-ended UN investigations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The commissioner of one of those investigations, Miloon Kothari of the UN\u2019s Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, was\u00a0forced to apologize<\/a>\u00a0in August after saying in an interview that social media was \u201ccontrolled largely by the Jewish lobby.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Citing Secretary General Guterres\u2019 claim that \u201cthere is no room for antisemitism in the UN,\u201d the letter concludes with a call for Albanese\u2019s ouster.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFailure to take meaningful action on repeated instances of antisemitism by UN officials undermines the UN\u2019s credibility,\u201d it reads. \u201cWe urge you to demonstrate that the UN is capable of genuinely addressing antisemitism by removing Ms. Albanese from her post.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
