{"id":102007,"date":"2023-02-08T17:05:05","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T15:05:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=102007"},"modified":"2023-02-08T09:04:51","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T07:04:51","slug":"14-05-91","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=102007","title":{"rendered":"Chaos on campus: London anti-Israel protesters call for violence against Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/ynet-images1.yit.co.il\/picserver5\/wcm_upload\/2022\/09\/12\/SyCbgTnlj\/news__011102_.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"35%\"><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=102007&amp;action=edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chaos on campus: London anti-Israel protesters call for violence against Israel<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Emily Schrader<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr style=\"height: 15px; background: #d0e6fa; width: 100%;\">\n<h4 class=\"subTitle\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Picketing lecture of pro-Israel activist, demonstrators chant openly for Intifada and call for UK universities to divest from Israel; \u2018We should be calling upon the Arab and Muslim armies to liberate Palestine occupation,\u2019 says one speaker<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">An event with Arab Israeli Yoseph Haddad titled \u201cLife as an Israeli Arab\u201d hosted by the UCL Israeli Society, the UCL Jewish Society at University College London (UCL) in cooperation with StandWithUs UK, led to a counter-protest with over 200 anti-Israel protesters who openly chanted for violence in the streets of London on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The event, attended by approximately 60 students due to the limited capacity of the room, and under heavy police and security presence, welcomed Yoseph Haddad who shared his story as a minority in Israel and spoke about his experiences in the IDF and the Second Lebanon War, battling Hezbollah. Even with the controversy outside, attendees of the event listened respectfully despite having different opinions, and asked pointed questions during the Q&amp;A<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Students and staff reported that there had been numerous attempts to cancel the event by anti-Israel groups in the week leading up to the lecture, and signs near campus advertised the anti-Israel protest with a \u201cwanted\u201d sign depicting Haddad\u2019s face. Students reported that such maneuvering is common practice on many UK campuses where there are concerted efforts to silence Jewish or pro-Israel speakers and events.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\">Previously, an event with Palestinian activist Bassem Eid was canceled due to \u201can error in how the event request was submitted,\u201d according to at least one of the organizers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">At the start of the anti-Israel protest, organizers chanted to \u201cfree Palestine from the river to the sea\u201d and marched from the center of campus to Haddad\u2019s lecture, blocking the entrance to the building and preventing attendees from leaving without being guarded by security. At one point, one of the protesters even asked security where the other exits to the building were, creating concern for the safety of Jewish students in attendance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ynet-images1.yit.co.il\/picserver5\/crop_images\/2023\/02\/07\/ry7pozxTo\/ry7pozxTo_0_0_829_1049_0_x-large.jpg\" width=\"100%\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Sign advertising anti-Israel protest with \u2018wanted\u2019 sign depicting Arab Israeli activist Yoseph Haddad\u2019s face (Photo: Emily Schrader)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Flares in the colors of the Palestinian flag were set off as the protesters chanted openly for Intifada and called for UK universities to divest from Israel. Several speakers at the protest, one of whom even identified herself as an employee of the university named Yasmeen, also accused Haddad personally of \u201cwar crimes\u201d and being a \u201cterrorist\u201d among other race-based insults, and reiterated repeatedly that Zionism, widely accepted as the movement for Jewish civil rights and self-determination, was something that must be obliterated, along with the State of Israel in its entirety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">One speaker stated explicitly, \u201cWe should be calling upon the Arab and Muslim armies to liberate Palestine occupation.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\">He continued, \u201chow do we accomplish a free Palestine? What is the true solution? Some may say it&#8217;s a two-state solution, but how can we accept this? This is our land&#8230;we cannot accept a two-state solution\u2026The solution is simple. Military occupation requires military intervention.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ynet-images1.yit.co.il\/picserver5\/crop_images\/2023\/02\/07\/B1j00qzgpo\/B1j00qzgpo_0_0_960_1280_0_x-large.jpg\" width=\"100%\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Anti-Israel rally at University College London, February 7, 2023 (Photo: Emily Schrader)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In addition to the chants and calls for violence, anti-Israel protesters were spotted waving photos of Iranian Ayatollah Khamenei, as well as cursing at and flipping off journalists present covering the event, despite the fact that the organizers of the anti-Israel demonstration called on the crowd not to engage with anyone outside their group and to conduct themselves peacefully.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Following Haddad\u2019s lecture, he was escorted out by 5 security guards through the back while over 100 protesters remained intended to confront him. The students were also able to exit through the back without incident.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\">On the protest, Haddad told Ynet, \u201cIt\u2019s really sad that in a country like the UK differing perspectives are so demonized and attacked to the point where there is a genuine danger of violence.
