Photo: Reuters\/Ammar Awad<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In yet another display of&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.camera.org\/journalist\/christiane-amanpour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Christiane Amanpour\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;prioritization of her disdain for Israel over journalistic integrity, the CNN anchor appears to have fabricated poll results to falsely suggest that the Palestinian side supports the two-state solution with Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Her comments came during her&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/videos\/tv\/2023\/02\/14\/amanpour-german.cnn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">interview<\/a>&nbsp;with former Israeli ambassador Yael German on February 14, 2023. Toward the end of the interview, Amanpour asked Ambassador German: \u201cI want to know from you, as a diplomat, is there any hope for anything resembling negotiations on a two-state solution, given that the settlements and the settlement-believers are emboldened by now their backers who are in government?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Ambassador German answered by pointing out the unwillingness of Palestinian leaders to agree to repeated offers of statehood and to live side by side with Israel. She also argued that the Palestinian people generally refuse to accept the existence of a Jewish state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Amanpour responded first by downplaying the extent of Palestinian rejectionism of the Jewish state, saying only \u201csome people\u201d believe that, and then, without providing any specific source, claimed: \u201cThe latest polls from the Palestinian side also show that they want a peaceful, two-state solution to co-exist with you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">It\u2019s unclear what \u201clatest polls\u201d Amanpour might be referring to, given that every major recent poll from the Palestinian side shows exactly the opposite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Recent polling by the Ramallah-based Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) has consistently shown low support for a two-state solution. A<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/pcpsr.org\/en\/node\/910\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;June 2022 poll<\/a>&nbsp;found that only 28% of Palestinians support the concept of a two-state solution. In<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/pcpsr.org\/en\/node\/920\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;September<\/a>, that figure rose to 37%, but dropped again in<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/pcpsr.org\/en\/node\/926\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;December<\/a>&nbsp;to 32%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Other Palestinian polls show the same. An<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.awrad.org\/files\/server\/polls\/AWRAD%20-%20Public%20opinion%20poll%20among%20Palestinians%20in%20the%20West%20Bank%202021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;August 2021 poll<\/a>&nbsp;from the Ramallah-based Arab World for Research &amp; Development (AWRD) found that only 36% of Palestinians supported the principle of a two-state solution. A<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jmcc.org\/documents\/Jmcc99En6.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;July 2022 poll<\/a>&nbsp;by the Palestinian organization Jerusalem Media &amp; Communication Center (JMCC) found that only 26% preferred a two-state solution. The data is further supported by polling data from The Washington Institute for Near East Policy (TWI), which found in<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtoninstitute.org\/policy-analysis\/twi-interactive-polling-platform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;June 2022<\/a>&nbsp;that only 37% of Gazans and 25% of West Bank Palestinians would \u201cdefinitely accept\u201d or \u201cprobably accept\u201d the principle of \u201ctwo states for two peoples.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The PCPSR polls also dispel the notion that the \u201cPalestinian side\u201d seeks a peaceful solution. As the December 2022 poll showed, a \u201cmajority of 55% support the return to an armed intifada.\u201d The figure was 55% and 48% respectively in June and September 2022. TWI found in June 2022 that approximately 70% of Gazans and 61% of West Bank Palestinians either strongly or somewhat agree that \u201cPalestinians should move to a new intifadah and make armed struggle their top priority.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The December 2022 PCPSR poll also found that 72% of Palestinians \u201csupport the formation of armed groups such as the \u2018<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fdd.org\/analysis\/2022\/10\/28\/analysis-the-lions-den\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lions\u2019 Den,<\/a>\u2019\u201d a terrorist organization behind a significant portion of the uptick in terror attacks in the last year, including by sending a<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.terrorism-info.org.il\/en\/palestinian-adolescents-in-the-service-of-the-terrorist-organizations-in-judea-and-samaria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;16-year-old<\/a>&nbsp;to attack Jewish worshipers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Given these consistent findings of relatively well-respected Palestinian polls, it seems likely that Amanpour entirely fabricated findings from nonexistent \u201clatest polls.\u201d A request for substantiation sent to Amanpour has so far gone unanswered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Even if a recent poll does exist that shows dramatically different results than the consistent figures from PCPSR, AWRD, TWI, and JMCC, it would be intellectually dishonest to omit any mention of the other \u201crecent polls\u201d contradicting Amanpour\u2019s preferred results.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em><strong>David M.
