Photo: Geneva Jewish community<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Antisemitism in Switzerland continues to \u201cpersist and grow,\u201d a new report from the country\u2019s main antisemitism monitoring body stated on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In a report detailing the increase in antisemitic incidents during 2022, the Intercommunity Coordination against Antisemitism and Defamation (CIDAD) identified 562 cases in the Francophone part of Switzerland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The group noted a dramatic increase compared with the<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2022\/02\/22\/covid-19-conspiracy-theories-trigger-fresh-rise-in-antisemitism-in-switzerland-new-report-finds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;previous two years<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 165 incidents in 2021, 283 in 2022 \u2014 but emphasized that the rise was in part due to the inclusion of additional sources of antisemitism, such as the Telegram social media platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The group said that the \u201cconsiderable number of recorded incidents is due to several factors: a broadening of the sources observed, the very prolific activity in Geneva of a Holocaust denier, and an increase in the number of cases of antisemitism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The report went on to assert that the \u201cconclusion is clear: in French-speaking Switzerland, antisemitism persists and continues to grow.\u201d It emphasized that 26 of the incidents had been classified as \u201cgrave\u201d or \u201cserious,\u201d compared with 13 in the same category last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">It identified four distinct sources of antisemitic agitation: the extreme right, which expresses \u201chatred of Jews and other minorities on a daily basis\u201d; Holocaust denial; conspiracy theories emerging from current issues ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic to the Russian war against Ukraine; and local events that have resulted in antisemitic outbursts, for example, a widely distributed video produced last year that attempted to break down stereotypes of the Jewish community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A separate survey in the German and Italian-speaking parts of Switzerland noted a six percent increase in the number of antisemitic incidents last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The survey \u2014 conducted by the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities (FSCI) and the Foundation against Racism and Antisemitism \u2014 noted that proponents of conspiracy theories \u201chave in common a belief in a secret power that wants to dominate, enslave or exterminate humanity,\u201d that leads them to focus on Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The survey similarly identified the Telegram channel as a major source of antisemitism, observing that 75 percent of online antisemitic incidents took place on the platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr style=\"height: 15px; background: #d0e6fa; width: 100%;\">\n<div id=\"content\" class=\"content-alignment\">\n<div id=\"watch-description\" class=\"yt-uix-button-panel\">\n<div id=\"watch-description-text\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><em>Zawarto\u015b\u0107 publikowanych artyku\u0142\u00f3w i materia\u0142\u00f3w nie reprezentuje pogl\u0105d\u00f3w ani opinii Reunion&#8217;68,<\/em><em><br \/>\nani te\u017c webmastera Blogu Reunion&#8217;68, chyba ze jest to wyra\u017anie zaznaczone.<br \/>\nTwoje uwagi, linki, w\u0142asne artyku\u0142y lub wiadomo\u015bci prze\u015blij na adres:<br \/>\n<\/em><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><em><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"mailto:webmaster@reunion68.com\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">webmaster@reunion68.com<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<hr style=\"width: 100%;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Antisemitism in Switzerland Continues to \u2018Persist and Grow\u2019: New Report Algemeiner Staff The interior of Geneva\u2019s main synagogue.
