Margot Robbie, who produces and stars in in the upcoming Greta Gerwig-directed movie\u00a0Barbie,<\/em>\u00a0revealed in a recent interview that\u00a0Wonder Woman<\/em>\u00a01984<\/em>\u00a0star and Israeli actress Gal Gadot was actually the first choice to play the iconic toy character in the Sony live-action movie.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gadot, 38, was both Gerwig, 39,\u00a0and Robbie\u2019s first pick to portray Barbie before the role was eventually given to the Australian actress. Robbie, 32, told\u00a0Vogue<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that she and Gerwig wanted to cast someone with \u201cBarbie energy\u201d and thought Gadot had what they were looking for.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGal Gadot is Barbie energy,\u201d Robbie told the magazine. \u201cBecause Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don\u2019t hate her for being that beautiful, because she\u2019s so genuinely sincere, and she\u2019s so enthusiastically kind, that it\u2019s almost dorky. It\u2019s like right before being a dork.\u201d Ultimately, Gadot was not available at the time and the part was given to Robbie.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the\u00a0Vogue<\/em>\u00a0interview was published, Gadot commented on Robbie\u2019s comments in an Instagram Story. The Israeli actress posted a screenshot of an article that includes Robbie\u2019s remarks and wrote, \u201cI\u2019m in for the next one sister!!! Can\u2019t wait to watch it!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Barbie,<\/em>\u00a0written by Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach, also stars Ryan Gosling, who plays Barbie\u2019s boyfriend Ken. Additional cast members include Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa who appear as different versions of Ken in the film. Hari Nef, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Anna Cruz Kayne, Sharon Rooney, Kate McKinnon, Nicola Coughlan, Alexandra Shipp, Ritu Arya and Issa Rae play versions of Barbie.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2016, actress Amy Schumer was announced as the lead for the\u00a0Barbie<\/em>\u00a0movie but four months later pulled out citing\u00a0scheduling conflicts. Robbie said in her interview with\u00a0Vogue<\/em>\u00a0that actress Anne Hathaway was also attached to the film at one point.<\/span><\/p>\n

Barbie<\/em>\u00a0will be released worldwide in theaters on July 21.<\/span><\/p>\n
