\"\"<\/a>Once Again, BBC Hides Facts About Palestinian Terrorists and Terror Groups<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

On the afternoon of August 22, the BBC News website published an article by the BBC Jerusalem bureau\u2019s Tom Bateman under the headline \u201cPalestinian militant, 17, killed during Israeli West Bank raid.<\/a>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The report opens with a five-paragraph account of that headline\u2019s subject matter: the death<\/a> of Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighter<\/a> Othman Abu Kharj during a counter-terrorism operation<\/a> earlier the same day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bateman also mentions recent incidents in Beita, Silwan and Qalqilya \u2014 all of which had already been reported the previous day<\/a> by his colleague David Gritten \u2014 as well as the latest terror attacks in Huwara<\/a> and at Beit Hagai junction<\/a>, which of course are not described as such.<\/span><\/p>\n

Later in the report readers are told that:<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Hamas praised Monday\u2019s attack near Hebron, calling it a \u201cnatural response\u201d to Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank and linked it to \u201cthreats\u201d on the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. The militant group Islamic Jihad said it sent a warning \u201cthat what is coming will be more severe and harsh.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Bateman does not provide his readers with any explanation of those alleged \u201cthreats,\u201d and their connection to Palestinian incitement and rioting<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

As was also the case in Gritten\u2019s report from a day earlier, Bateman chose to note a statement from Israel\u2019s prime minister:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Israel\u2019s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, pledged to \u201csettle the score with the murderers and those who send them, near and far.\u201d He ultimately blamed the killings on Iran, which backs Islamic Jihad and the largest Palestinian militant group, Hamas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Once again BBC audiences were given no further information on the topic of Iran\u2019s contributions<\/a> to the current wave of terrorism: a topic repeatedly avoided<\/a> by BBC journalists<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bateman\u2019s portrayal of the background to topic of his article is particularly notable.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The West Bank is in the grip of the worst violence in two decades amid the absence of any political solution to the conflict, while Israel\u2019s military occupation is now into its 57th year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Israel has the most ultranationalist government in its history in which politicians now routinely call for more strident military operations and further Israeli settlement expansion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, internecine divisions have seen Palestinian political rivalries deepen and its official leadership lose control of key West Bank cities to militant groups.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The framing of the rise in violence that began over two years ago<\/a> as being the outcome of \u201cthe absence of any political solution to the conflict\u201d is of course by no means novel in BBC reporting. However, in order to promote that narrative, BBC journalists have to avoid the inconvenient fact that neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Islamic Jihad \u2014 two of the main proponents<\/a> of the current violence in Judea & Samaria \u2014 are remotely interested in any \u201cpolitical solution\u201d because their openly-stated aim<\/a> is to wipe Israel off the map<\/a>. Interestingly, those parties do not earn the description \u201cultranationalist\u201d from Bateman.<\/span><\/p>\n

Towards the end of the article readers are told that:<\/span><\/p>\n

In July, the army carried out its biggest military assault in years on Jenin refugee camp, in which 12 Palestinians, including militants and children, were killed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Bateman\u2019s chosen phrasing fails to clarify that 10 of the 12<\/a> Palestinians killed during that counter-terror operation were claimed by terror groups, including at least three \u201cchildren.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bateman closes his report with the following statement: \u201cAt least 219 Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, and 31 Israelis have been killed this year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bateman refrains from clarifying to his readers that the majority of the Palestinians killed this year<\/a> were affiliated with terrorist organizations, that a significant proportion were killed while carrying out terror attacks or shortly afterwards, and that the majority of Israelis murdered in Palestinian terror attacks were civilians.<\/span><\/p>\n
