David Frum accused me of agitating for murder of Jews. Ted Cruz condemned. Now it\u2019s on the NYT HP without a blip.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Not entirely without a blip. One\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0reader, David Rusenko,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/drusenko\/status\/1711130537069543678\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posted<\/a>, \u201cJust canceled my @nytimes subscription. Shockingly biased coverage on the front page right now. All photos of damage or injury are Palestinian, and photos representing Israel are of tanks, the iron dome, and people hiding safely.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Rusenko went on: \u201cZero mention of the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Israeli civilians and the gleeful filming as their bodies are paraded around the streets. And to add insult to injury, they have the gall of featuring a graph of the relative deaths from the last 15 years, implying that either the attack was justified or minimizing the current deaths. Disgusting.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) hasn\u2019t left the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0off the hook. Cruz\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tedcruz\/status\/1711501561103253944\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">retweeted<\/a>\u00a0radio host Mark Levin\u2019s cautionary words: \u201cWatch the\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>, which covered up the Holocaust while millions of Jews were being exterminated. Watch how it turns on the Israeli Jews as Israel acts to wipe out Hamas. Watch how most of the rest of the media line up behind it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The senator also\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tedcruz\/status\/1711486438452445583\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">warned<\/a>, \u201cHamas uses civilians as human shields. When Israel strikes back, the useful idiots at the\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>\u00a0and CNN will denounce Israel for murdering civilians. Don\u2019t believe the lies.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">At least in the initial coverage, the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u2018 main errors have been more of moral equivalence than outright denouncing Israel. But there was some of the latter, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/10\/09\/opinion\/israel-hamas-attack.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">staff editorial<\/a>\u00a0denounced Israel for cutting off electricity to Hamas-controlled Gaza and lectured Israel about international law. \u201cAlready the Israeli government is cutting off power and water to Gaza, and it ordered a siege to starve Hamas of resources. This tactic, if it continues, will be an act of collective punishment,\u201d the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0editorial said. \u201cAll sides involved in the conflict are bound by international law, and it is important to note that violations by one side do not permit violations by another.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The same editorial concluded with a call to \u201cwork toward an end to the cycle of violence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The idea of a \u201ccycle of violence\u201d doesn\u2019t accurately apply to the situation in Israel. Everyone outside the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0realizes that, from the left-of-center Israel Policy Forum (\u201c<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/israelpolicyforum.org\/2023\/02\/02\/there-is-no-cycle-of-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">There Is No Cycle of Violence<\/a>\u201c) to the right-of-center Middle East Forum (\u201c<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.danielpipes.org\/2325\/palestinian-word-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cycle of violence<\/a>\u00a0\u2026 implies a moral equivalence between the killing of Israeli civilians and Palestinian Arab terrorists. It confuses the arsonist with the fire department.\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em>Times<\/em>\u00a0readers complained online about an imbalance, with the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0highlighting more pictures of suffering Palestinians than of suffering Israelis. \u201cThe NYT coverage is an absolute travesty. I\u2019m embarrassed that it took me this long to cancel my subscription. I only wish I could cancel it multiple times,\u201d Justin Reidy\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VegetablesReidy\/status\/1711076644687880290\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posted<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Other readers took to social media to complain, too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Yuri Sagalov\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/yuris\/status\/1711065988299714661\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a>: \u201cNYT has 16 photos on the home page attached to this article. Scroll through them. 11 of them are of the action in Gaza. Of the 5 about Israel, one shows a dog that was rescued. None show or even *hint* at the gruesomeness of the civilian murders of the past 24-48 hours.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Israeli government has openly struggled with decisions about releasing gruesome photos of suffering Israelis, apparently balancing the risk that they might be seen as disrespectful or demoralizing with the need to accurately portray the horrors of what happened. Hamas, on the other hand, has enthusiastically promoted images of Palestinian suffering as a kind of cause-advancing publicity of supposed Israeli brutality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cSo disgusted with @nytimes coverage of the terror in Israel that I am giving up Wordle. It means nothing to them but I won\u2019t support them in any way,\u201d\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JCT_212\/status\/1711375073461023215\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said one<\/a>, drawing a reply of: \u201cAgree. NYT coverage sucks. I\u2019m going elsewhere for my news.
