Congressional Republicans\u2019 efforts to decouple U.S. President Joe Biden\u2019s proposed aid for Israel and Ukraine have met with\u00a0opposition<\/a>\u00a0from the White House.<\/span><\/p>\n

Proposed\u00a0legislation<\/a>\u00a0in the U.S. House of Representatives for $14.3 billion for Israel would draw money from cutting the budget of the Internal Revenue Service. It would also remove proposed humanitarian aid to Palestinians.<\/span><\/p>\n

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has insisted that \u201cIsrael is a separate matter\u201d from Ukraine and that he seeks to bifurcate the two wars.<\/span><\/p>\n

The proposal is \u201cbad for Israel, for the Middle East region and for our own national security,\u201d said the White House\u2019s Office of Management and Budget (OMB). \u201cThe bill fails to meet the urgency of the moment by deepening our divides and severely eroding historic bipartisan support of Israel\u2019s security.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

OMB added that the legislation \u201cinserts partisanship into support for Israel, making our ally a pawn in our politics at a moment we must stand together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Senate also opposes the House\u2019s standalone Israel funding bill.<\/span><\/p>\n

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) responded by saying: \u201cThe bottom line is, it\u2019s not a serious proposal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
