A British police <\/span>officer <\/span>has been charged <\/span>with a terrorism offense for allegedly publishing an image in support <\/span>of Hamas<\/span>, a group banned in Britain as a terrorist organization, police <\/span>said on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mohammed Adil, 26, from Bradford in northern England, was arrested last November and charged <\/span>following an investigation by British counter-terrorism officer<\/span>s, Counter Terrorism Policing North East said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

The police <\/span>watchdog, the Independent Office for Police <\/span>Conduct (IOPC), said the inquiries had focused on messages shared on WhatsApp which had concluded the case should be referred to prosecutors.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn Monday, PC Mohammed Adil, 26, was charged <\/span>with two counts of publishing an image in support <\/span>of a proscribed organization, specifically Hamas<\/span>, contrary to section 13 of the Terrorism Act,\u201d the IOPC statement said. \u201cThe offenses are alleged to have taken place in October and November 2023.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Adil, a police <\/span>constable, has been suspended from his job with West Yorkshire Police <\/span>and is due to appear before London Westminster Magistrates\u2019 Court on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas <\/span>on Israel, police <\/span>have arrested and charged <\/span>a number of people at pro-Hamas protests in London for showing <\/span>support <\/span>for the group, while counter-terrorism<\/span><\/p>\n
