Following a call to action to counter protest that quickly went viral, local Jewish community members and allies crowded outside the small venue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">With numbers quickly swelling, Israel supporters chanted \u2018terrorist supporters off our streets\u2019 and were seen wearing \u2018Say no to terror\u2019, \u2018Openly Jewish\u2019, \u2018Zionist\u2019 and \u2018Please don\u2019t arrest me teeshirts\u2019. They held hand-made placards saying \u2018protesting Jewish films is so last century\u2019 and \u2018Rape supporters off out streets\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Commuters driving past hooted their horns in support, waved Israeli flags from the window and were greeted with huge cheers.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1423848\" class=\"wp-caption size-fullscreen aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1423848 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.jewishnews.co.uk\/jewishnews\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5128.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" \/>\n<div class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Thursday 23rd May 2024. Pic: Niaz Maleknia<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">With tensions high, a heavy police presence soon gave up on trying to direct traffic down the high street and closed it off entirely. Anti-Israel protestors were penned in on the opposite side of the road, several with their faces covered, yelling, whistling and playing music in a vain attempt not to be drowned out.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1423775\" class=\"wp-caption size-fullscreen alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1423775 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.jewishnews.co.uk\/jewishnews\/uploads\/2024\/05\/unnamed-file.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1070\" height=\"780\" \/>\n<div class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Screenshot Seret Film Festival<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Buses were left abandoned as the area was cordoned off and what began as an unprecedented show of solidarity soon turned into a street party that continued after the film, filled to its 250 seat capacity, had begun inside the cinema.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Israeli and Iranian flags were flown, Elton John\u2019s classic \u2018I\u2019m still standing\u2019 was played on repeat, alongside Elan Golan\u2019s \u2018Am Y\u2019Israel Chai\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1423849\" class=\"wp-caption size-fullscreen alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1423849 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.jewishnews.co.uk\/jewishnews\/uploads\/2024\/05\/IMG_5062.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1355\" \/>\n<div class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Thursday 23rd May 2024. No Jew should ever feel unsafe displaying their Judaism and their love and pride for the state of Israel.
