Credit: oliverdelahaye\/Shutterstock.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The U.S. House of Representatives voted 247 to 155 on Tuesday to pass H.R. 8282, the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act. Two Republicans\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/house-dems-defy-biden-vote-icc-sanctions-response-netanyahu-threats\">voted<\/a>\u00a0\u201cpresent\u201d and 42 Democrats voted with Republicans for the bill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">AIPAC stated that the bill responds to the \u201cmorally bankrupt and legally baseless attack against Israel\u201d leveled by Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, a United Nations agency located in The Hague.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Khan announced that he was seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as for Hamas leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe ICC\u2019s attack on Israel is a dangerous precedent that could be used in future efforts against America,\u201d AIPAC\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aipac.org\/resources\/house-adopts-icc-sanctions\">said<\/a>, lauding the bill\u2019s passage in the House. \u201cSince the court\u2019s establishment, Democratic and Republican presidents have chosen not to join the ICC as they feared politically motivated trials that could impact our citizens and soldiers. This case affirms that decision.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">AIPAC \u201curges the Senate to adopt this important legislation,\u201d it added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The bill, which Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) introduced, calls the ICC\u2019s actions against the Jewish state \u201cillegitimate and baseless,\u201d requires the U.S. president to sanction those who assist the ICC in its investigation, arrest, detention or prosecution of \u201ca protected person\u201d and sanctions and imposes visa bans on such people and their families, according to AIPAC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The U.S. president could waive such sanctions \u201con a case-by-case basis\u201d when such exceptions are \u201cdetermined to be vital to the national security interests of the United States,\u201d AIPAC added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) called the ICC\u2019s actions \u201coutrageous\u201d and \u201cunconscionable\u201d in a press conference on Tuesday morning prior to the vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe ICC has to be punished for this action,\u201d he\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/us-house-votes-sanction-international-court-warrants-netanyahu-israeli-rcna155464\">said<\/a>. \u201cWe cannot allow this to stand. If the ICC was allowed to do this and go after the leaders of countries whose actions they disagree with, why would they not come after America?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe ICC chose the wrong side of history when they issued a warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and other Israeli defense officials,\u201d\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepStefanik\/status\/1798106218482774049\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), chair of the House Republican Conference, after the bill passed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThese corrupt bureaucrats will be held accountable for punishing our greatest ally Israel in her hour of need,\u201d Stefanik added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Roy, who introduced the bill,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepChipRoy\/status\/1798109146589565423\">stated<\/a>\u00a0that its passage \u201csends a strong message to the ICC that we will not tolerate their outrageous attacks on Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cBut let\u2019s be clear. This isn\u2019t just about Israel. This is about ensuring that our nation\u2019s sovereignty is protected, as well as our servicemembers,\u201d he said. \u201cAbsent decisive leadership at the White House, Congress must stand in the breach defending our allies and our sovereignty.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Earlier in the day, Matthew Miller, the U.S. State Department spokesman, was asked if Foggy Bottom supported the bill.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe have made clear that while we oppose the decision taken by the prosecutor of the ICC\u2014we don\u2019t think it was appropriate, especially while there are ongoing investigations inside Israel looking at some of these very same questions\u2014and we are willing to work with Congress on what a response might look like, we don\u2019t support sanctions,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Miller was asked what that response would look like if it didn\u2019t involve sanctions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cSo that is a consultation that we will have with Congress. I\u2019m not going to preview it from here,\u201d Miller said. \u201cThose are discussions we need to have with members of Congress.
