The United Nations\u2019 notoriously controversial special rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories has called for the UN to expel Israel as a member state of the world body, once again raising questions of her impartiality.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTime to #UNseatIsrael from the UN,\u201d\u00a0Francesca Albanese<\/a>\u00a0wrote on X\/Twitter on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Albanese was responding to a tweet from\u00a0Balakrishnan Rajagopal, the UN special rapporteur \u201con the right to adequate housing,\u201d who wrote it was \u201chigh time to take action against Israel including through unseating from the UN, as was done with apartheid South Africa.\u201d
\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The outrage came after Israeli forces struck a UN facility in Gaza which, according to the military, was being used by Hamas terrorists as a command center. Hamas, the Palestinian terrorist group that rules Gaza, notoriously embeds its fighters within Gaza\u2019s civilian population and\u00a0commandeers civilian facilities like hospitals<\/a>, schools, and mosques to run operations and direct attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n

The UN facility hit in Gaza belonged to the\u00a0United Nations Relief and Works Agency<\/a>\u00a0(UNRWA), the UN organization dedicated solely to Palestinian refugees and their descendants. UNRWA has been\u00a0accused of aiding Hamas<\/a>, and Israel has said employees of the agency participated in the terrorist group\u2019s Oct. 7 onslaught across southern Israel. UN officials deny the allegations, arguing their mission in Gaza is critical to ensuring humanitarian aid gets to the civilian population.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur troops found UAVs, war rooms used for surveillance operations, and large quantities of weapons, including tactical drones, rockets, machine guns, mortars, explosives, and grenades in a compound near UNRWA\u2019s HQ in Gaza City, following intelligence that Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists and infrastructure were embedded inside,\u201d the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement regarding its operation targeting the facility. The IDF also said there were tunnel routes near the compound.<\/span><\/p>\n

In response to Albanese\u2019s tweet, Hillel Neuer \u2014 the executive director of UN Watch, a Geneva-based NGO that monitors the UN \u2014 lambasted the special rapporteur for what he described as an\u00a0anti-Israel bias<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou are violating your duty to act with impartiality. Under no circumstances is a UN mandate holder entitled to call for the removal of a member state,\u201d he wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n

Albanese\u2019s call to expel Israel is the latest chapter of her extensive history of using her role at the UN to denigrate Israel and seemingly rationalize Hamas\u2019 attacks on the Jewish state.<\/span><\/p>\n

The UN recently launched a probe into Albanese\u2019s conduct over\u00a0allegedly accepting a trip<\/a>\u00a0to Australia funded by pro-Hamas organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n

In April, Albanese issued\u00a0public support<\/a>\u00a0for the pro-Hamas protests and encampments on US university campuses, saying that they gave her \u201chope.\u201d Earlier that month, she accused Israel of destroying Gaza and committing genocide in the Hamas-ruled Palestinian enclave, from which the terrorist group launched the current war by invading the Jewish state on Oct. 7, massacring 1,200 people, and kidnapping 250 others as hostages. At a public hearing at the European Parliament on April 9, the UN rapporteur devoted much of her time to accusing Israel \u2014 but not Hamas \u2014 of lying about its conduct in Gaza.<\/span><\/p>\n

That hearing came about two weeks after\u00a0Albanese released a report accusing Israel<\/a>\u00a0of carrying out \u201cgenocide\u201d in Gaza, continuing a pattern of the UN official singling out the Jewish state for particularly harsh condemnation. Albanese\u2019s report did not mention any details about Hamas\u2019 Oct. 7 massacre across southern Israel. Israeli officials lambasted her findings, arguing they were misleading and excused terrorism.<\/span><\/p>\n

In February, Albanese\u00a0claimed Israelis were \u201ccolonialists\u201d<\/a>\u00a0who had \u201cfake identities.\u201d Previously,\u00a0she defended<\/a>\u00a0Palestinians\u2019 \u201cright to resist\u201d Israeli \u201coccupation\u201d at a time when over 1,100 rockets were fired by Gaza terrorists at Israel. Last year, US\u00a0lawmakers called for the firing of Albanese<\/a>\u00a0for what they described as her \u201coutrageous\u201d antisemitic statements, including a 2014 letter in which she claimed America was \u201csubjugated by the Jewish lobby.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Albanese\u2019s anti-Israel comments have\u00a0earned her the praise of Hamas officials<\/a>\u00a0in the past.<\/span><\/p>\n

In response to French President Emmanuel Macron calling Hamas\u2019 Oct. 7 attack on Israel the \u201c\u201dargest antisemitic massacre of the 21st century,\u201d Albanese said, \u201cNo, Mr. Macron. The victims of Oct. 7 were not killed because of their Judaism, but in response to Israel\u2019s oppression.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Video footage of the Oct. 7 onslaught showed\u00a0Palestinian terrorists led by Hamas celebrating<\/a>\u00a0the fact that they were murdering Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Albanese has argued that Israel should\u00a0make peace with Hamas<\/a>, saying that it \u201cneeds to make peace with Hamas in order to not be threatened by Hamas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked what people do not understand about Hamas, she added, \u201cIf someone violates your right to self-determination, you are entitled to embrace resistance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
