Actor Jon Voight accused his daughter, actress and filmmaker Angelina Jolie, of being uniformed about Israel and swayed by antisemites while commenting on their differing political views about the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in a new interview with\u00a0Variety<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>magazine.<\/span><\/p>\n

In November, a mere three weeks after the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre and the start of the Israel-Hamas war, Jolie criticized Israel\u2019s military actions targeting terrorists in the Gaza Strip. \u201cThis is the deliberate bombing of a trapped population who have nowhere to flee,\u201d she\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0in an Instagram post. \u201cGaza has been an open-air prison for nearly two decades and is fast becoming a mass grave. 40? of those killed are innocent children. \u2026 Whole families are being murdered.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Her Instagram post was the second time that Jolie publicly commented on the Israel-Hamas war. Both times, she did not\u00a0mention Hamas\u00a0by name or the rockets fired by the terror group from Gaza on Israeli civilians during the ongoing war.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Oscar winner spent over 20 years working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, first as a goodwill ambassador from 2001\u20132012 and then as a special envoy from 2012-2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

A day after Jolie\u2019s Instagram post in November, Voight, who is an\u00a0avid supporter of Israel<\/a>,\u00a0criticized<\/a>\u00a0the anti-Israel views of his once-estranged daughter who he reconciled with over the years. The 85-year-old bashed Jolie\u2019s anti-Israel stance several times again during his interview with\u00a0Variety<\/em>, which was published on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe has been exposed to propaganda,\u201d the former \u201cRay Donovan\u201d star said about his daughter. \u201cShe\u2019s been influenced by antisemitic people. Angie has a connection to the UN, and she\u2019s enjoyed speaking out for refugees. But these people are not refugees.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Voight \u2014 who has\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0he feels an obligation to combat antisemitism \u2013 then accused the \u201cMr. & Mrs. Smith\u201d star of being trapped in a Hollywood \u201cbubble\u201d and not having access to real information about the Israel-Hamas war. Voight told\u00a0Variety<\/em>: \u201cAngie, I think she hasn\u2019t been available to this information because in Hollywood people don\u2019t share this kind of stuff. They\u2019re way off. They have no idea what\u2019s going on. It\u2019s a bubble.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt comes from ignorance, like everything else,\u201d Voight explained. \u201cIt\u2019s like, why are these\u00a0kids in the universities siding with Hamas<\/a>, right? It\u2019s because of ignorance. They don\u2019t know the story.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He further told the magazine that while he loves his daughter and does not want to fight with her, he believes she has \u201cbeen influenced by the UN.\u201d He said the United Nations claims to care about human rights, but when it comes to the actions of Israel, \u201cit\u2019s just\u00a0anti-Israel bashing<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s ignorant of what the real stakes are and what the real story is because she\u2019s in the loop of the United Nations,\u201d he further claimed about Jolie.<\/span><\/p>\n
