Iranian officials have told Arab diplomats that Tehran is determined to strike Israel even if doing so sparks a regional war,\u00a0The Wall Street Journal<\/em>\u00a0reported on Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The United States has asked European nations and other allies to convey a message to Tehran not to escalate, the\u00a0Journal<\/em>\u00a0said. U.S. officials have also\u00a0been pressing\u00a0Israel to lower tensions, according to the report.<\/span><\/p>\n

he Islamic Republic\u2019s\u00a0apparent\u00a0rejection of calls for restraint came as Jordanian Foreign Minister\u00a0Ayman Safadi<\/a>\u00a0arrived in Tehran on a rare visit to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

The London-based Arabic-language\u00a0Asharq Al-Awsat<\/em>\u00a0news site cited a Jordanian political source as saying on Sunday night that Safadi stressed to the Iranians the \u201cneutrality of Jordan\u2019s airspace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Amman\u2019s top diplomat reportedly noted that the Arab kingdom had condemned the alleged Israeli assassination of Hamas terrorist Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, claiming that the July 31 move was an attempt by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to \u201cspread conflict in the region.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Pezeshkian was said to have told Safadi that \u201cthe Zionists\u2019 arrogance\u201d would not go unanswered, according to Tehran\u2019s official\u00a0IRNA<\/em>\u00a0news agency.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Iranian regime has vowed revenge following last week\u2019s killing of\u00a0Haniyeh<\/a>, Hamas\u2019s top political leader, who died in an explosion at his Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps guesthouse in Tehran. Both Iran and Hamas have accused Jerusalem of carrying out the assassination.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has ordered a\u00a0direct attack<\/a>\u00a0on the Jewish state following the alleged bombing of the secure compound,\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0reported on Wednesday, citing Iranian officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

Israel has also been awaiting the response by Iran\u2019s terror proxies to its killing of top Hezbollah commander\u00a0Fuad Shukr<\/a>\u00a0in Beirut on July 30. Shukr was responsible for a recent rocket attack that killed 12 children in the Golan Heights, according to the IDF, and was also behind the 1983 bombing that killed 241 U.S. service members in Beirut.<\/span><\/p>\n

Three U.S. and Israeli officials who talked to\u00a0Axios\u00a0<\/em>reporter Barak Ravid over the weekend said they expect Iran to attack as early as Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at a memorial service for revisionist Zionist leader Ze\u2019ev Jabotinsky in Jerusalem on Sunday, Netanyahu said that \u201cIran and its minions are looking to surround us in a stranglehold of terrorism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are determined to stand against them on every front and\u00a0in every\u00a0arena\u2014near and far. Whoever seeks to harm us will pay a hefty price,\u201d the prime minister added, according to a readout from his office.<\/span><\/p>\n

Netanyahu convened the chiefs of Israel\u2019s security agencies on Sunday evening for a situation assessment at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv,\u00a0Channel 12 News<\/em>\u00a0reported, noting that the\u00a0government is still struggling to create a \u201cdefinitive picture\u201d of the assault it could be facing.<\/span><\/p>\n

The report said that Israel\u2019s defense establishment was considering the possibility of \u201cpreventive actions or attacks\u201d it could initiate to thwart Iran, \u201cin Lebanon or perhaps in other places where necessary.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A source in Jerusalem told\u00a0NBC News<\/em>\u00a0earlier on Sunday that the government is bracing for a combined attack by Iran and Hezbollah lasting \u201cseveral days,\u201d with missile attacks from the north and east.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gen.\u00a0Erik Kurilla<\/a>, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), was scheduled to arrive in Israel on Monday as part of a pre-planned regional tour that\u00a0also\u00a0includes stops in Jordan and several Gulf states.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kurilla\u2019s visit will focus on building a multilateral defensive alliance similar to the one that fended off the vast majority of the more than 300 missiles and explosive drones Iran\u00a0fired at<\/a>\u00a0the Jewish state in mid-April.<\/span><\/p>\n

U.S. officials told\u00a0CNN<\/em>\u00a0on Friday that it remains to\u00a0be seen\u00a0whether the\u00a0coalition<\/a>\u00a0could be re-established before Iran attacks and whether all the countries that assisted the April effort are still willing to participate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Israeli military spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari\u00a0in\u00a0televised remarks on\u00a0Thursday\u00a0announced that international partners would \u201cstrengthen their forces in the region\u201d\u00a0amid the looming\u00a0Iran threat<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
