John Fetterman (D-Pa.) defended his statement that he loved Israel\u2019s attack on Hezbollah pagers in a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/10\/26\/magazine\/john-fetterman-interview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent interview<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0<em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIt was targeted for members of Hezbollah,\u201d the pro-Israel Democrat said. \u201cYou know, no one uses beepers in that situation other than they were a member of Hezbollah.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The interviewer noted that a young child was killed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cUnfortunately, tragically, because Daddy was a member of Hezbollah. He brought that danger and evil into their home,\u201d Fetterman said. \u201cThat\u2019s what tragically resulted in that poor child\u2019s death, and that\u2019s what\u2019s so terrible. She paid the price because her father was a terrorist for Hezbollah.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Fetterman added that he thinks a two-state solution is an ideal but isn\u2019t sure anymore if that is a possibility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0interviewer asked Fetterman about the \u201cnuance\u201d of the \u201cprice\u201d being paid in innocent life in the Gaza Strip. Fetterman replied, \u201cThere isn\u2019t any nuance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cYou think that the price that\u2019s been paid is fair?\u201d the interviewer asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe price is terrible. It\u2019s awful. That\u2019s history and that\u2019s war, and Israel was forced to fight an enemy that are cowardly,\u201d he said. \u201cThey hide in tunnels. They hide in schools and in refugee camps, and they\u2019re in those kinds of places.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThat forces them to reach them\u2014they have to go through these civilians,\u201d Fetterman said. \u201cThat\u2019s why they\u2019re so evil, and that\u2019s why that\u2019s designed\u2014the death and destruction and the misery, was designed by Hamas. They understood that that\u2019s going to happen. They don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cSome people blame Israel,\u201d the senator said. \u201cWell, I blame Hamas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The interviewer asked Fetterman to comment on the leadership of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The senator responded that it is \u201creally curious\u201d that many Democrats have decided that they couldn\u2019t criticize Israel, so instead they went after Netanyahu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cYou can think he\u2019s a bad leader or a bad person or anything, but that happens to be the democratically leader of Israel, and he\u2019s on our side,\u201d Fetterman said. \u201cThat\u2019s our ally, and if you had to pick who you want to<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\">criticize, you should be criticizing Hamas. You should be calling out Iran, or you should be calling out Hezbollah.
