This will be Trump\u2019s first meeting with a foreign leader since being inaugurated for a second, non-consecutive term on Jan. 20.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Reflecting on past achievements, Netanyahu highlighted his partnership with Trump in securing the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/trump-did-a-very-good-thing-with-abraham-accords-blinken-says\/\">Abraham Accords<\/a>, which normalized ties between Israel and four Arab nations. He outlined key topics for their upcoming discussion, including Israel\u2019s war against Hamas, efforts to secure the release of all hostages, and strategies to counter the Iranian-led terror axis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe decisions we made in the war have already changed the face of the Middle East. Our decisions and the courage of our soldiers have redrawn the map. But I believe that working closely with President Trump, we can redraw it even further and for the better,\u201d Netanyahu stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI believe that we can strengthen security, broaden the circle of peace and achieve a remarkable era of peace through strength,\u201d he concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu departed aboard\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/israels-air-force-one-leaves-for-us-without-the-pm\/\">Wing of Zion<\/a>, Israel\u2019s official aircraft for presidential and prime ministerial travel, accompanied by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, diplomatic adviser Ophir Falk, chief of staff Tzachi Braverman, military secretary Maj. Gen. Roman Gofman and government hostage coordinator Gal Hirsch, among other senior aides.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Finance Minister and Religious Zionism Party head Bezalel Smotrich and National Unity Party leader Benny Gantz sent their well-wishes to Netanyahu upon his departure for the United States via the X social media platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Smotrich emphasized the high stakes of the meeting, including achieving victory in Gaza, eliminating Hamas, securing Israel\u2019s borders, and addressing the Iranian nuclear threat. He also stressed the importance of strengthening Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, asserting that peace and alliances should be forged from a position of strength. Smotrich reaffirmed full support for Netanyahu from the people of Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Mr. Prime Minister, I send you my best wishes as you depart for such an important meeting with the President of the United States, a lover of Israel, Donald Trump.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A great deal is at stake \u2013 the complete victory in Gaza, the destruction of Hamas and the return of all our hostages, the strengthening of our security on all borders \u2013 in Syria, Lebanon and of course against the head of the octopus, the Iranian regime and the nuclear threat. This danger must be removed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We must strengthen our grip and sovereignty over the homeland in Judea and Samaria. We have such a small country \u2013 and therefore, first, avoid evil: we do not take Gaza and multiply the threat in the heart of our country 20 times. We strengthen our grip and impose sovereignty over Judea and Samaria.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>From strength and power \u2013 we make peace, forge alliances, and strengthen the status of the State of Israel.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Mr. Prime Minister, the entire people of Israel are behind you. Thousands of years, many generations, hundreds of warriors who gave their lives for the victory in this war, the bereaved families and thousands of wounded IDF soldiers \u2013 all expect you to represent our position faithfully.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Go forth in peace, represent us with honor, and again in peace and strength \u2013 until victory!<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"css-9pa8cd aligncenter\" draggable=\"true\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/amplify_video_thumb\/1885957856622469120\/img\/Y0AkmiNUxcSsiM36?format=jpg&amp;name=small\" alt=\"Embedded video\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Gantz similarly wished Netanyahu success, highlighting the meeting\u2019s significance in advancing the return of the captives, addressing the Iranian challenge, expanding normalization efforts, and removing Hamas from power.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hostage negotiations and diplomatic engagements<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Though the White House had not formally announced the visit, an\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EylonALevy\/status\/1884328937536303575\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">image<\/a>\u00a0of what appears to be Trump\u2019s invitation to Netanyahu circulated on social media. Dated Jan. 28 and signed by the president, the letter states: \u201cI look forward to discussing how we can bring peace to Israel and its neighbors, and efforts to counter our shared adversaries.\u201d Trump adds: \u201cIt will be my honor to host you as my first foreign leader during my second term.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu stated on Saturday that he had spoken in the evening with\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/second-deal-phase-to-be-negotiated-in-washington-netanyahu-says\/\">Steve Witkoff<\/a>, the U.S. special envoy to the Middle East, and that the two had agreed to begin negotiating the second stage of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal in Washington during his visit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.jns.org\/uploads\/2025\/01\/54296106406_56e9d7d97c_o-1320x880.jpg\" width=\"100%\" \/><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meets in Israel with Steve Witkoff, U.S. special Middle East envoy, Jan. 29, 2025. Photo by Maayan Toaf\/GPO.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu\u2019s office said that discussions would take place on Monday, on the 16th day of the agreement, \u201cwithin the framework of which they will discuss the Israeli positions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cLater in the week, Witkoff will speak with the prime minister of Qatar and senior Egyptian representatives,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cHe will then discuss with the prime minister steps to advance the negotiations, including dates for the departure of delegations to the talks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Efforts to accelerate hostage releases<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Officials involved in the ceasefire negotiations believe the release process can be accelerated, with the Hamas terrorist group not ruling out shortening the deal\u2019s phases, including the transition to releasing men and soldiers, Israel\u2019s\u00a0<em>Channel 12 News<\/em>\u00a0reported on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The officials argue that maintaining the original phased framework does not benefit Jerusalem and that a formula can be devised to ensure the deal\u2019s stability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Hebrew news outlet also reported that Netanyahu is considering replacing Mossad chief David Barnea with Dermer as head of Israel\u2019s negotiation team, despite concerns that this could disrupt talks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Recent hostage releases and truce details<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Yarden Bibas, Ofer Kalderon and\u00a0Keith Siegel were\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/yarden-bibas-ofer-kalderon-keith-siegel-redeemed-after-484-days-in-gaza\/\">freed<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday after 484 days in Hamas captivity in the Gaza Strip. In exchange, Jerusalem on Saturday freed 183 terrorists (182 Palestinians and one Egyptian)\u201418 serving life sentences, 54 serving lengthy terms and 111 of whom were arrested since Hamas\u2019s Oct. 7, 2023, massacre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Kalderon also holds French citizenship, while Siegel is an American-Israeli dual national.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.jns.org\/uploads\/2025\/02\/photo5-1320x880.jpg\" width=\"100%\" \/><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Freed American-Israeli hostage Keith Siegel, accompanied by his wife, Aviva, reunites with his daughters Elan, Gal and Shir, and his brother Lee, at Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov Hospital) in Tel Aviv on Feb. 1, 2025. Photo by Ronen Harish\/GPO.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Siegel\u2019s liberation was welcomed by the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/white-house-members-of-congress-celebrate-release-of-keith-siegel-israelis\/\">White House<\/a>, which continues to push for the release of the American hostages held in Gaza. Two U.S. nationals, Sagui Dekel-Chen, 35, and Edan Alexander, 19, are believed to be alive, while four others are presumed to have been killed in captivity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">On Thursday, three Israelis\u2014IDF soldier Agam Berger, 20, along with civilians Arbel Yehud, 29, and Gadi Mozes, 80\u2014and five Thais were redeemed from terrorist captivity in Gaza as part of Hamas\u2019s truce with Jerusalem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Under the six-week phase-one truce agreement, Hamas has committed to releasing 33 hostages in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian terrorists. Following Saturday\u2019s release, 18 hostages have been freed so far.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">According to Israeli estimates, there are 79 hostages still in Hamas captivity in Gaza, including 76 abducted during the Oct. 7 attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Of the 251 hostages taken on Oct. 7, 2023, 175 have been\u00a0returned\u00a0or rescued,\u00a0and Hamas\u00a0is believed\u00a0to be holding 35 bodies, 34 of them taken during the cross-border invasion and that of IDF Lt.
