Photo: AAP Image\/Steven Saphore via Reuters Connect<br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">An Australian nurse working in a Sydney hospital has been arrested and charged after a viral video captured him making threats, stating he would refuse to treat Israeli patients and instead kill them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This latest legal step comes as law enforcement works to combat a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/01\/22\/australian-police-suspect-foreigners-paying-criminals-perpetrate-antisemitic-attacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">surge in antisemitic incidents<\/a>\u00a0across Australia, which the country\u2019s spy chief has called his agency\u2019s top priority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">After the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas\u2019s Oct. 7, 2023, invasion of and massacre across southern Israel, several\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2024\/12\/06\/netanyahu-links-melbourne-synagogue-attack-australian-governments-extreme-anti-israeli-position\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jewish sites in Australia have been relentlessly targeted<\/a>\u00a0with vandalism and even arson, especially in the past few months. In response, a New South Wales (NSW) police task force, Strike Force Pearl, was established to address the wave of hate crimes and rising antisemitism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">On Tuesday night, 27-year-old Ahmed Rashid Nadir was arrested and charged with federal offenses, including using a carriage service to menace, harass, or cause offense, as well as possession of a prohibited drug, NSW Police said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The arrest follows an incident at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in Sydney, in which Nadir and his fellow nurse, Sarah Abu Lebdeh, were seen in an\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/02\/12\/australian-nurses-threaten-kill-israeli-patients-leading-jews-question-safety-countrys-hospitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online video posing as doctors and making inflammatory statements<\/a>\u00a0during a night-shift discussion with Israeli influencer Max Veifer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The footage, which circulated widely, showed Lebdeh stating she would refuse to treat an Israeli patient and instead kill them, while Nadir used a throat-slitting gesture and claimed to have already killed many.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIt\u2019s Palestine\u2019s country, not your country, you piece of s\u2014t,\u201d Lebdeh told Veifer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cOne day your time will come, and you will die the most disgusting death,\u201d she added in a sentence riddled with obscenities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Last week, 26-year-old\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/02\/26\/australian-nurse-charged-threatening-israeli-patients-spy-chief-flags-antisemitism-top-concern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lebdeh was arrested and charged<\/a>\u00a0with similar federal offenses, including threatening violence against a group and using a carriage service to threaten, menace, and harass, with a conviction potentially leading to up to 22 years in prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">After reviewing patient records, the hospital found no evidence that Lebdeh or Nadir had harmed patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">NSW\u2019s Health Minister Ryan Park confirmed that both nurses had been suspended and would be permanently barred from employment within the state\u2019s health system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">According to the NSW Police statement, both Lebdeh and Nadir were released on bail and are set to appear in court on March 19. Lebdeh has been prohibited from leaving Australia and using social media while her case proceeds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The incident is one of the latest in a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/01\/06\/f-k-jews-car-australia-vandalized-antisemitic-graffiti-latest-incident-against-jewish-community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">surge of antisemitic acts<\/a>\u00a0across Australia since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza in October 2023, with Jewish institutions targeted in arson attacks and businesses defaced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Law enforcement in Sydney and Melbourne, home to the majority of Australia\u2019s Jewish population, is actively investigating hate crimes, including the recent discovery of a trailer containing explosives and a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/01\/29\/australian-police-foil-antisemitic-attack-finding-explosives-list-jewish-targets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">list of potential Jewish targets<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Since the formation of Strike Force Pearl, the task force to combat antisemitism, in December, NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb reported that 15 people have been arrested, and 78 charges have been filed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI must commend the work Strike Force Pearl detectives are doing to investigate, charge, and put these individuals before the courts,\u201d Webb said in a statement. \u201cThere is a tremendous amount of dedication and hard work going into all these investigations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Last month, dozens of\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/02\/18\/muslim-groups-defend-australian-nurses-who-vowed-kill-israeli-patients-accuse-critics-double-standards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Australia\u2019s leading Muslim groups and individuals defended<\/a>\u00a0the two nurses, accusing their critics of \u201chypocrisy\u201d and \u201cdouble standards and moral manipulation\u201d in an open letter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThis statement is not about defending inappropriate remarks.
