Shocking new revelations in the Bowe Bergdahl prisoner exchange debacle could land Barack Obama in serious legal trouble \u2013 perhaps even prison time.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Before Bergdahl was released in a highly controversial prisoner exchange earlier this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exchange involved five dangerous Gitmo detainees being release for Bergdahl. There was also apparently a failed attempt to pay a ransom for the soldier that ended in epic failure.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a letter made public by Rep. Duncan Hunter that was sent to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Hunter stated that a Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) counter-terrorism unit had attempted to make an undisclosed large payment to an Afghan intermediary on behalf of the Haqqani terrorist network for the release of Bergdahl.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the epic failure part of the story. Not only is it illegal to make such a ransom payment from the U.S. government, but the Afghan liaison who accepted the payment ended up taking off with it. Needless to say, it must have been quite the sum. (H\/T WashingtonTimes)<\/span><\/p>\n

Why would a ransom payment be illegal? Why would Obama be in trouble? Because \u201cProviding material support or resources to designated foreign terrorist organizations,\u201d which the Haqqani Network certainly falls under, is against U.S. Code 2339B. In simple terms, it\u2019s essentially conspiring to help fund terrorism.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bergdahl\u2019s family was originally prepared to pay a $10 million dollar ransom for the release of their son, but those plans were changed when the JSOC and the Dept. of Defense got involved.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hunter stated in the letter that the payment was made \u201ccovertly\u201d by members of JSOC, and FBI personnel were inside Afghanistan waiting for Bergdahl\u2019s release, when they quickly realized they\u2019d been scammed.<\/span><\/p>\n

But the lies continue to roll out. Josh Earnest, Press Secretary for the White House, told curious reporters earlier this week that the President \u201ccontinues to believe, as previous presidents have concluded, that it\u2019s not in the best interest of American citizens to pay ransoms to any organization, let alone a terrorist organization.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

What did the administration spin the ransom payment as?<\/span><\/p>\n

They claim the money was not \u201ctechnically\u201d a ransom payment, rather, it was a payment to a source that had information on the whereabouts of Bergdahl at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

While this should insult every American, it shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise with this administration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hunter stated that he has yet to receive an official response from the Pentagon regarding the details of the illegal ransom payment.<\/span><\/p>\n
