Photo: REUTERS\/Jonathan Ernst<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">More than 400 members of the entertainment industry have signed an open letter denouncing \u201cextremist rhetoric\u201d and the spread of misinformation about Israel in response to last week\u2019s\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/05\/22\/accused-dc-shooter-elias-rodriguez-idolized-man-who-set-himself-fire-outside-israeli-embassy-court-documents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">murder of two Israeli embassy staffers<\/a>\u00a0in Washington, DC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe, the undersigned, are saying enough! Enough with the lies, and enough with the extremism,\u201d states the open letter released by the non-profit organization Creative Community for Peace (CCFP) on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The document was also published in response to several open letters from members of the entertainment and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/may\/28\/gaza-letter-genocide-zadie-smith-ian-mcewan?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">literature<\/a>\u00a0industries that\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/05\/27\/former-hamas-captive-has-hostage-pin-confiscated-cannes-over-900-filmmakers-actors-accuse-israel-genocide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accused Israel of \u201cgenocide\u201d<\/a>\u00a0while criticizing Israel\u2019s military actions in the Gaza Strip during its ongoing war against Hamas terrorists responsible for the deadly rampage across southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Thursday\u2019s open letter debunks several false claims about Israel related to the Gaza war and condemns anti-Israel activists for promoting \u201cthe antisemitic blood libel that the Jewish state \u2013 and all the Jews that support Israel \u2013 are bloodthirsty, intentionally targeting civilians, and committing \u2018genocide.&#8217;\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe reject the anti-Israel movement co-opting every social justice cause \u2014 outrageously claiming that to stand with the LGBTQIA+ community, or with anti-racist, anti-colonialist, anti-Islamophobic and anti-antisemitic movements, is to stand against Israel,\u201d the letter says. \u201cThis is all done to paint Israel \u2014 and Jews around the world \u2014 as embodying the world\u2019s ultimate evils. This is antisemitism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">CCFP\u2019s open letter also singles out celebrities for unknowingly assisting in the spread of anti-Israel propaganda and false information. \u201cSome well-meaning celebrities and public figures have been manipulated by this constant stream of misinformation, which they have also helped to amplify,\u201d the letter states. \u201cOn May 21, 2025, we saw that these lies can have deadly consequences \u2026 these claims are amplified by the media, in addition to celebrities who share this disinformation to their millions of followers on social media.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Yaron Lischinsky, 30, and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/05\/26\/murdered-israeli-embassy-staffer-lost-many-close-friends-who-accused-her-being-complicit-genocide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sarah Milgrim<\/a>, 26, were gunned down and killed on the evening of May 21 while leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC. The victims were colleagues at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, and were soon-t0-be engaged. The alleged lone gunman, 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez, yelled \u201cFree Palestine\u201d while being arrested by police after the shooting, according to video of the incident. An FBI affidavit supporting Rodriguez\u2019s federal criminal charges stated that he told law enforcement he \u201cdid it for Gaza.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Rodriguez has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, among other charges, and several voices \u2013 including 15 Israeli lawmakers and Israel\u2019s Minister of Culture and Sports Miki Zohar \u2013 have\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/05\/27\/israels-culture-minister-miki-zohar-joins-israeli-mks-calling-death-penalty-dc-jewish-museum-shooter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called on authorities to pursue the death penalty<\/a>\u00a0against the alleged shooter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Studio executives, actors, actresses, television personalities, musicians, and songwriters are among those who signed CCFP\u2019s open letter on Thursday. The signatories include Uzo Aduba, Jerry O\u2019Connell, Patricia Heaton, Rebecca De Mornay, Debra Messing, Julianna Margulies, Mayim Bialik, Sharon Osbourne, Mattel Chairman and CEO Ynon Kreiz, Matisyahu, songwriter Diane Warren, and Disturbed lead singer David Draiman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">CCFP said the open letter is the first of its kind because it is calling for the entertainment community to \u201cunequivocally condemn the anti-Israel movement\u2019s role in scapegoating and endangering Jews around the globe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe call on all our colleagues to reject this extremist rhetoric and the spread of misinformation so that we can all work toward a future in which all Israelis and Palestinians can live side by side in peace and dignity,\u201d the letter states in conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Saban Capital Group Chairman and CEO Haim Saban, who also signed the open letter, said it is \u201ca plea for truth, for accountability, and for responsibility \u2014 especially from those with powerful platforms.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWhen public figures accuse Israel of genocide, call for intifada, or claim Jews are colonizers, they may not understand the history they\u2019re invoking \u2014 but the people who act on those words often do,\u201d he noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cHistory repeats itself: peddling lies about Jews has deadly consequences,\u201d Bialik said in a released statement. \u201cFor the past two years, public figures and influencers with millions of followers have consistently promoted fallacious and menacing anti-Israel propaganda masquerading as advocacy. This stream of lies against the Jewish people and the Jewish ancestral homeland has now \u2013 unsurprisingly to anyone watching closely \u2013 turned deadly in the United States. This moment requires public figures to use their platforms responsibly. We implore these individuals to lend their voices to those of moral clarity, peace and tolerance, instead of division, distortion and delegitimization.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Capital Jewish Museum was closed in the days after the deadly shooting but reopened on Thursday with a ceremony in memory of Lischinsky and Milgrim.
