U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Israel and Iran have agreed to a ceasefire and an end to the war between the two countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump said the ceasefire would begin in about six hours, at approximately midnight Eastern time, when both sides would conclude any ongoing military operations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a complete and total ceasefire,\u201d Trump\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0on his Truth Social platform. \u201cDuring each ceasefire, the other side will remain peaceful and respectful.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on having the stamina, courage and intelligence to end what should be called \u2018the 12-Day War,\u2019\u201d Trump said. \u201cThis is a war that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn\u2019t, and never will.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations, world, it\u2019s time for peace,\u201d he\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0in a second message.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump announced that the ceasefire was in effect a little over an hour after it was supposed to start, writing on his Truth Social account in all caps: \u201cTHE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have not yet commented on the ceasefire agreement.<\/span><\/p>\n

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee reacted to the ceasefire on X, writing that he was \u201cawakened by phone instead of ballistic missile\u201d at 3 a.m. in Israel as Trump delivered \u201cgreat news of [a] ceasefire soon to be in place.\u201d Huckabee added that the 12-day conflict \u201cfelt like 12 months,\u201d and praised the president for not just praying for peace, but delivering it, thanking him for bringing relief to the region.<\/span><\/p>\n
