Israeli intelligence officials have reportedly concluded that parts of Iran\u2019s underground stockpile of highly enriched uranium likely survived last month\u2019s US-Israeli strikes, reviving questions about how severely the attacks degraded Tehran\u2019s nuclear capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0New York Times<\/em>, a senior Israeli official said the country believes some of Iran\u2019s 60% enriched uranium\u00a0remains accessible at nuclear sites<\/a>\u00a0that were buried too deep to be destroyed in last month\u2019s strikes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although Israel has long monitored Tehran\u2019s nuclear program, the Israeli official said Iran intensified its push toward developing a nuclear weapon after Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah was killed last September.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last month, Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, a\u00a0sweeping military campaign<\/a>\u00a0aimed at dismantling Iran\u2019s nuclear capabilities and neutralizing what officials described as an imminent nuclear threat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Israel\u2019s campaign of airstrikes and covert sabotage from within Iran came on the 61st day of a 60-day deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Tehran to secure a deal through diplomacy to curb the country\u2019s nuclear activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The US joined Israel\u2019s airstrike campaign against Tehran by launching a large-scale military operation that destroyed three key nuclear enrichment facilities \u2014 Isfahan, Natanz and Fordow \u2014\u00a0ultimately leading to a US-brokered ceasefire<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the aftermath of the strikes, intelligence and media reports on the extent of damage to Iran\u2019s nuclear capabilities have been inconsistent and often contradictory.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Rafael Grossi, the head of UN nuclear watchdog the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),\u00a0Iran could resume producing enriched uranium within months<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Several experts have also warned that Iran likely relocated its stockpile of near-weapons-grade highly enriched uranium from the targeted sites ahead of the strikes and may now be concealing it elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n

These assessments raised doubts about the effectiveness of US strikes aimed at crippling Tehran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said last month he was unaware of any intelligence indicating that\u00a0Iran had moved its highly enriched uranium<\/a>\u00a0to protect it from US strikes, with preliminary assessments suggesting the attacks may have delayed Iran\u2019s nuclear program by several months.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other US intelligence officials have reported that Tehran\u2019s nuclear sites were \u201cseverely damaged\u201d during the American airstrikes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last week, the Pentagon announced that US strikes set back Iran\u2019s nuclear program by as much as two years, indicating that the military operation likely met its objectives despite other assessments.<\/span><\/p>\n

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, meanwhile,\u00a0acknowledged that the damage<\/a>\u00a0to Iran\u2019s nuclear facilities during last month\u2019s attacks was significant, but also said the regime was still assessing its full extent.<\/span><\/p>\n

President Trump has said he would consider carrying out further strikes on Iran if US intelligence reveals new concerns about the country\u2019s uranium enrichment program.<\/span><\/p>\n
