French President Emmanuel Macron\u00a0stated<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday that \u201cconsistent with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East,\u201d Paris intends to recognize a Palestinian state.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI will make this solemn announcement before the United Nations General Assembly this coming September,\u201d Macron stated. \u201cThe urgent priority today is to end the war in Gaza and to bring relief to the civilian population.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu \u201cstrongly\u201d condemned Macron\u2019s decision \u201cto recognize a Palestinian state next to Tel Aviv in the wake of the Oct. 7 massacre.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSuch a move rewards terror and risks creating another Iranian proxy, just as Gaza became,\u201d Netanyahu stated. \u201cA Palestinian state in these conditions would be a launch pad to annihilate Israel\u2014not to live in peace beside it. Let\u2019s be clear: the Palestinians do not seek a state alongside Israel. They seek a state instead of Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Danny Danon, the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, stated that \u201cneither international conferences disconnected from reality nor unilateral statements at the United Nations will lead to peace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMacron\u2019s decision to recognize a Palestinian state after the massacre of Oct. 7 and precisely at a time when Hamas is still holding hostages is a disgraceful reward for terrorism,\u201d Danon said. \u201cAnyone who ignores the reality on the ground\u2014that Israel has no partner for peace\u2014harms not only Israel but the stability of the entire region.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, said that Washington \u201cstrongly rejects\u201d Macron\u2019s plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis reckless decision only serves Hamas propaganda and sets back peace,\u201d Rubio\u00a0stated<\/a>. \u201cIt is a slap in the face to the victims of\u00a0Oct. 7.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.)\u00a0stated<\/a>\u00a0that Macron\u2019s decision is \u201ca shameful endorsement of terrorists\u201d and that \u201cthe best way for this conflict to end is to back Israel in its righteous mission of rescuing the hostages and defeating Hamas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

AIPAC stated that Macron \u201cis acting as Hamas\u2019s handmaiden\u201d and is \u201crewarding Hamas\u2019s barbaric attack on the Jewish state on Oct. 7.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis unilateral recognition makes peace and reconciliation even more elusive,\u201d it said. \u201cWe urge the administration and Congress to express their opposition to the French government concerning this irresponsible action.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
