<\/a>No. 2 House Democrat clarifies comment about Gaza \u2018genocide\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\nJonathan D. Salant<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), a leading supporter of Israel in the House, told JNS on Monday that the No. 2 House Democrat told him she does not believe that Israel\u2019s actions in Gaza amount to genocide.<\/span><\/p>\n Gottheimer said in response to a JNS query that he had spoken with House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) after Clark\u00a0mentioned<\/a>\u00a0\u201cstopping the starvation and genocide and destruction of Gaza\u201d during an event last week in her district.<\/span><\/p>\n Clark \u201cmade clear to me that she does not believe Israel\u2019s actions in Gaza amount to genocide,\u201d the Jewish congressman told JNS. \u201cLike all of us concerned about the situation on the ground, she is focused on surging more aid to innocent Palestinians, defeating Hamas terrorists and bringing every hostage home.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Clark told JNS that \u201clast week, while attending an event in my district, I repeated the word \u2018genocide\u2019 in response to a question.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI want to be clear that I am not accusing Israel of genocide,\u201d she said. \u201cWe all need to work with urgency to bring the remaining hostages home, surge aid to Palestinians and oppose their involuntary relocation, remove Hamas from power and end the war.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Gottheimer has defended Israel as the Jewish state went to war after the Hamas-led terrorist attacks on Oct. 7, 2023. He was a lead\u00a0sponsor<\/a>\u00a0of bipartisan legislation authorizing the United States to send Israel the bunker-buster bombs, which U.S. forces dropped on underground Iranian nuclear sites, and the aircraft needed to carry them.<\/span><\/p>\n Clark\u2019s comment about \u201cgenocide\u201d came up during a forum last week held by the Friends Committee on National Legislation, a Quaker group.<\/span><\/p>\n The congresswoman mentioned the conflict in the Middle East along with Republican efforts to redraw congressional district lines in GOP-run states, as she told attendees to \u201ctake action in time to make a difference.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n AIPAC\u00a0lists<\/a>\u00a0Clark alongside other congressional leaders under the banner \u201cwe stand with those who stand with Israel\u201d on its website.<\/span><\/p>\n It adds that Clark \u201chas supported America\u2019s alliance with Israel over her seven terms in office\u201d and that after Oct. 7, she \u201cco-sponsored and voted in favor of a resolution backing Israel and affirming her right to self-defense, while condemning Hamas and its barbaric attack on the Jewish state.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Zawarto\u015b\u0107 publikowanych artyku\u0142\u00f3w i materia\u0142\u00f3w nie reprezentuje pogl\u0105d\u00f3w ani opinii Reunion’68,<\/em> .
