Photo: The Algemeiner<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">NEW YORK\/TEL AVIV \u2014 Defying the uncertainty of war, 225 Jews arrived in Tel Aviv on the first charter\u00a0<em>aliyah<\/em>\u00a0flight since the Hamas-led invasion of and massacre across southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, determined to start new lives and contribute to the country they now call home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">On Wednesday morning, Nefesh B\u2019Nefesh \u2014 a nonprofit that promotes and facilitates\u00a0<em>aliyah<\/em>\u00a0from the United States and Canada \u2014 brought its 65th charter flight from New York to Tel Aviv.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em>Aliyah<\/em>\u00a0refers to the process of Jews immigrating to Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">With the most children yet on a single flight, this historic\u00a0<em>aliyah<\/em>\u00a0brought 45 families to their new homeland \u2014 125 children among them, ranging from the youngest at 9 months to the oldest at 72.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Migrating from across the US and Canada, these newcomers and families are settling throughout Israel to build communities and begin new lives of service to the Jewish state. Among them are professionals in fields such as medicine, journalism, education, law, accounting, engineering, and many others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">During a farewell ceremony in New York, Nefesh B\u2019Nefesh chairman and co-founder Tony Gelbart commended those on the flight, holding them up as examples of Jewish resilience and unity in the face of adversity<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cYou\u2019re fulfilling your dream, but I believe you\u2019re doing something even more important at this time,\u201d Gelbart said in his speech.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cNot only are you helping Israel; you\u2019re showing the world that Jews everywhere stand together and care for one another,\u201d he continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Israeli Minister of Aliyah and Integration Ofir Sofer, who traveled to the US to see off the new\u00a0<em>olim<\/em>\u00a0(immigrants who moved to Israel) on their historic flight, also praised them for embarking on this new chapter in Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI want to thank each and every person who made the decision to make\u00a0<em>aliyah<\/em>\u00a0during the war. It strengthens our resilience and our solidarity, and I am truly proud of them,\u201d Sofer told\u00a0<em>The Algemeiner<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cSince Oct. 7, we\u2019ve seen that most people want to support Israel \u2026 but the highest form of solidarity is choosing to make\u00a0<em>aliyah<\/em>,\u201d the Israeli official said. \u201cThese individuals want to be part of what\u2019s happening in Israel, make a meaningful difference, and stand with their people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Founded in 2002, Nefesh B\u2019Nefesh is dedicated to \u201cstrengthening the State of Israel by facilitating\u00a0<em>aliyah<\/em>, advancing national service and development, and promoting Zionist education.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Nefesh B\u2019Nefesh, working alongside Israel\u2019s Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, the Jewish Agency for Israel, Keren Kayemeth, and the Jewish National Fund-USA, helps\u00a0<em>olim<\/em>\u00a0become fully integrated members of Israeli society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">To this day, they have assisted nearly 100,000\u00a0<em>olim<\/em>\u00a0in establishing thriving lives in Israel, guiding them through the\u00a0<em>aliyah<\/em>\u00a0process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Those who decide to make\u00a0<em>aliyah<\/em>\u00a0receive comprehensive support to help them transition smoothly into their new life, including guidance through the immigration process, access to community programs, health-care assistance, and employment resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Israeli government also provides a range of support and resources to ease the transition and adaptation for those taking this significant step, including housing subsidies and higher education incentives for young\u00a0<em>olim<\/em>\u00a0and professionals pursuing studies in Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI believe we\u2019ll see an increase in the number of people making\u00a0<em>aliyah<\/em>\u00a0in the coming years.
