And how the world treats us now, after so much suffering. I immediately thought of Shani. It was harsh, a painful feeling. I was deeply saddened and angry at the organizers,\u201d Kupervaser said after learning about the new rule.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&gt;Eventually, after pressure from the Israeli Chess Federation and extensive talks held by its CEO, Gil Boruchovsky, and chairman Zvika Barkai, as well as senior FIDE officials, the global body required the organizers to allow the Israeli flag to be displayed next to Israeli players competing in Spain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.jpost.com\/image\/upload\/f_auto,fl_lossy\/c_fill,g_faces:center,h_537,w_822\/519663\" width=\"100%\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Chess board (credit: ISRAELI CHESS ASSOCIATION)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>FIDE steps up for Israel and against discrimination<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201c<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/chess\">FIDE<\/a>&nbsp;had no prior knowledge of this decision, did not make any ruling on this, nor was it consulted by the organizers,\u201d read an official statement by the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<section class=\"article-paragraph-wrap\">\n<section class=\"article-body-paragraph article-body-paragraph \"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">They also said, \u201cFIDE strongly condemns any form of discrimination, including on the basis of nationality and flag. We invite all chess players worldwide, including Spaniards, to attend the international championship we will hold in November in Israel\u2019s capital, Jerusalem.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&gt;FIDE\u2019s statement sends an important message to the international community and reminds us that chess, as the most noble and ancient game, must remain above all political disputes. The Israeli Chess Federation calls on all parties to maintain a sporting spirit, fairness, and the unity of the global chess community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIt\u2019s frustrating. I\u2019ve played in many tournaments abroad and was never discriminated against. Here, in this particular place in Spain, they made the wrong decision.
