<\/a>Top Israeli Diplomat Blasts Spain Over Anti-Israel Rhetoric, Rising Antisemitism<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\nAilin Vilches Arguello<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Israel has once again accused the Spanish government of\u00a0fueling antisemitism through its anti-Israel rhetoric<\/a>\u00a0and alleged incitement of hatred, the latest escalation in the tense relationship between Jerusalem and Madrid.<\/span><\/p>\n In an interview with N12 News, Israel\u2019s acting ambassador to Spain, Dana Erlich, said the Spanish government\u2019s stance on Israel is motivated not by solidarity with the Palestinian cause but by a desire to harm the Jewish state.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe are in a truly difficult situation with the Spanish government,\u201d Erlich said. \u201cI came here without illusions about the current government\u2019s stance or what could be achieved. But I arrived with the belief that all is not lost and that there is still room for dialogue and a diversity of opinions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Since the start of the war in Gaza, Spain has become\u00a0one of Israel\u2019s fiercest critics<\/a>, a stance that has only intensified in recent months, coinciding with a shocking rise in antisemitic incidents targeting the local Jewish community \u2014 from violent assaults and vandalism to protests and legal actions.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt is important to clearly distinguish the current Spanish government from the rest of the country, including the broader political sphere, opposition parties, the media, and civil society organizations,\u201d Erlich said.<\/span><\/p>\n The Israeli diplomat stressed that most Spaniards do not view Israel as an enemy, and that the government\u2019s stance is not representative of the country as a whole.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe cannot let this government\u2019s anti-Israel stance hold us back; we must step up our efforts and increase our visibility,\u201d Erlich said.<\/span><\/p>\n Since assuming her role earlier this year, Erlich has worked to maintain meetings, personal contacts, and engagement in cultural, economic, and academic arenas, despite government efforts to hinder such activities.<\/span><\/p>\n Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez has increasingly faced backlash from his country\u2019s political leaders and the Jewish community, who accuse him of fueling antisemitic hostility.<\/span><\/p>\n These criticisms intensified following\u00a0incidents at the Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a cycling race<\/a>, with political leaders claiming he has repeatedly incited hatred through his anti-Israel rhetoric and exploitation of the Palestinian cause.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cLike in many other parts of the world, we are deeply concerned about the rise of antisemitism here,\u201d Erlich said. \u201cWhat is even more alarming is the authorities\u2019 failure to recognize or acknowledge this increase.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAntisemitism has existed for a long time, but here in particular, rhetoric and criticism of Israel often spill over into generalizations and the demonization of all Israelis,\u201d the Israeli diplomat continued.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSpain is a signatory to the Declaration on Combating Antisemitism, yet this blanket generalization and targeting of all Israelis violates the Declaration \u2014 and fits the very definition of antisemitism,\u201d Erlich said.<\/span><\/p>\n Since the start of the war in Gaza, Spain has\u00a0launched a fierce anti-Israel campaign<\/a>\u00a0aimed at undermining the Jewish state on the international stage.<\/span><\/p>\n In one of its latest attempts to curb Israel\u2019s defensive campaign against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, Madrid has decided to block US military planes and ships from using Spanish bases to transport weapons and equipment to Jerusalem.<\/span><\/p>\n Last month, S\u00e1nchez also unveiled new policies targeting Israel over the war in Gaza, including an arms embargo and a ban on certain Israeli goods.<\/span><\/p>\n The Spanish government announced it would bar entry to individuals involved in what it called a \u201cgenocide against Palestinians,\u201d block Israel-bound ships and aircraft carrying weapons from Spanish ports and airspace, and enforce an embargo on products from Israeli communities in the West Bank.<\/span><\/p>\n Spain has also canceled a \u20ac700 million ($825 million) deal for Israeli-designed rocket launchers, as the government conducts a broader review to systematically phase out Israeli weapons and technology from its armed forces.<\/span><\/p>\n Zawarto\u015b\u0107 publikowanych artyku\u0142\u00f3w i materia\u0142\u00f3w nie reprezentuje pogl\u0105d\u00f3w ani opinii Reunion’68,<\/em> Top Israeli Diplomat Blasts Spain Over Anti-Israel Rhetoric, Rising Antisemitism Ailin Vilches Arguello Dana Erlich, the Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires of the Israeli Embassy in Spain, signs the guestbook at the headquarters of the Community of Madrid.
