{"id":124969,"date":"2025-10-15T17:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=124969"},"modified":"2025-10-12T17:04:38","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T15:04:38","slug":"15-00-109","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=124969","title":{"rendered":"Jewish Council, British MPs Urge Manchester Academy to Nix Concert by \u2018Antisemitic\u2019 Band Bob Vylan"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.reunion68.com\/Biuletyn\/img\/algem.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"35%\" \/><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><span><strong><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/10\/10\/jewish-council-british-mps-urge-manchester-academy-nix-concert-antisemitic-band-bob-vylan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jewish Council, British MPs Urge Manchester Academy to Nix Concert by \u2018Antisemitic\u2019 Band Bob Vylan<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong> Shiryn Ghermezian<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr style=\"height: 15px; background: #d0e6fa; width: 100%;\" \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/rsz_52368511998_9c142166f7_b-e1753467993942.jpg\" width=\"100%\" \/><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Bob Vylan music duo performance at Glastonbury Festival (Source: FLIKR)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">British Members of Parliament and Jewish leaders are urging the college preparatory school Manchester Academy to cancel a concert next month featuring the punk-rap duo Bob Vylan because of the band\u2019s promotion of antisemitism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester (JRC) &amp; Region said this week in a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/jewishmanchester.org\/jrc-statement-re-forthcoming-performance-of-bob-vylan-at-manchester-academy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released statement<\/a>, backed by 10 MPs, that it is \u201cdeeply concerned\u201d about the school\u2019s decision to host Bob Vylan on Nov. 5 after the band has \u201crepeatedly engaged in rhetoric that crosses the line from legitimate political discourse into antisemitism and incitement.\u201d The JRC said Bob Vylan\u2019s \u201cstatements and actions do not provoke debate but carry a real danger by promoting hatred.\u201d The statement was backed by 10 British lawmakers, including Greater Manchester Labour MPs Navendu Mishra, Jo Platt, Graham Stringer, Christian Wakeford, and Paul Waugh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">While performing at the Glastonbury Festival in June in Somerset, England, Bob Vylan led the crowd in chanting, \u201cFree, free Palestine\u201d and \u201cDeath, death to the IDF,\u201d referring to the Israel Defense Forces. The band\u2019s lead singer, Pascal Robinson-Foster, also complained on stage about working for a \u201cf\u2013king Zionist.\u201d Their Glastonbury set was broadcast live on the BBC, whose chairman later apologized for airing the band\u2019s \u201cunconscionable antisemitic views.\u201d The BBC also apologized for live streaming Bob Vylan\u2019s \u201coffensive and deplorable behavior\u201d while UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the anti-IDF chant as \u201cappalling hate speech.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">There was a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/08\/06\/antisemitic-incidents-spiked-uk-bob-vylans-death-idf-chants-glastonbury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recorded rise in antisemitic incidents<\/a>\u00a0in the United Kingdom the day after the band\u2019s Glastonbury performance. Bob Vylan has denied accusations about the band being antisemitic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Following the ordeal at Glastonbury, Bob Vylan was removed from the lineup for Manchester\u2019s Radar Festival and France\u2019s Kave Fest, their\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DeputySecState\/status\/1939697586920997374\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US visas were revoked<\/a>\u00a0ahead of their North America tour, and they were dropped by their talent agency. The band plans to visit Manchester next month on their \u201cWe Won\u2019t Go Quietly\u201d tour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThere is a vital distinction between legitimate criticism of the Israeli government and speech that veers into antisemitism,\u201d the JRC noted in its statement. \u201cFreedom of expression is a central component of our democracy that must be protected but it cannot be right to platform an artist who has consistently been condemned as hateful and racist. We call on the Manchester Academy to cancel the performance and commit to clear policies to ensure that it will not legitimize prejudice under the guise of freedom of speech.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Chief Executive of the JRC is Marc Levy, whose father, Alan Levy, was among congregants at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Manchester when it was\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/10\/03\/british-jews-say-yom-kippur-attack-matter-time-israel-demands-uk-crack-down-incitement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attacked last week on Yom Kippur<\/a>, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The stabbing attack left two congregants dead and three other people injured. The attacker, identified by police as 35-year-old Jihad al-Shamie, 35, was shot dead by officers at the scene of the crime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The JRC sent a letter to Manchester Academy last month that also demanded the school cancel Bob Vylan\u2019s upcoming concert. The Jewish council said that their statement this week about the concert was originally meant to be released on Oct. 3 but was pushed because of the deadly terrorist attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cOver the last few days, we have spoken about how incitement across society is putting the Jewish community in danger,\u201d the JRC said this week. \u201cOne of the many issues we have continually raised is how our cultural spaces are being weaponized to support terrorism and glorify violence \u2026 The fact a band who are responsible for an \u2018antisemitic broadcast\u2019 was booked at one of our city\u2019s most iconic venues is shameful.
