Israel on Sunday night reaffirmed its commitment to the U.S.-brokered ceasefire in Gaza, which had been threatened after a series of Hamas attacks on Israeli forces sparked military retaliation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn accordance with the directive of the political echelon, and following a series of significant strikes in response to Hamas\u2019 violations, the [Israel Defense Forces] has begun the renewed enforcement of the ceasefire,\u201d said the Israeli military.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe IDF will continue to uphold the ceasefire agreement and will respond firmly to any violation,\u201d the statement added.<\/span><\/p>\n

U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Sunday evening that the incident would be handled \u201ctoughly but properly\u201d and that the truce in the Strip remained in effect.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re gonna have to see what\u2019s happening,\u201d the president said, asked about Israel\u2019s retaliatory strikes. \u201cWe wanna make sure that it\u2019s gonna be very peaceful with Hamas, and as you know, they\u2019ve been quite rambunctious, they\u2019ve been doing some shooting,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, Trump told reporters that it was possible the terrorist group\u2019s leadership \u201cisn\u2019t involved in that,\u201d suggesting that \u201csome rebels within\u201d launched the attacks on Israeli forces.<\/span><\/p>\n

U.S. Vice President JD Vance, speaking with journalists on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews on Sunday night, claimed that \u201cwhen we talk about Hamas, you\u2019re talking about 40 different cells; it\u2019s disjointed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSome of those cells will probably honor the ceasefire. Many of those cells, as we saw some evidence of today, will not,\u201d Vance continued.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBefore we can actually ensure that Hamas is properly disarmed, that\u2019s gonna require, as we know, some of these Gulf Arab states to get forces in there to actually apply some law and order,\u201d he added, stressing that this security infrastructure will be put in place when \u201cyou actually go a little bit down the path\u201d of Trump\u2019s 20-point peace deal for the Strip.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hamas terrorists\u00a0attacked<\/a>\u00a0IDF soldiers in southern Gaza on Sunday, triggering retaliatory airstrikes and high-level political deliberations in Jerusalem as the ceasefire deteriorated.<\/span><\/p>\n

An IDF source told\u00a0Reuters<\/em>\u00a0that Hamas carried out several attacks on Israeli soldiers beyond the Yellow Line\u2014the boundary to which the military withdrew under the Trump administration\u2019s peace plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier today, terrorists fired an anti-tank missile and gunfire toward IDF troops operating to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the Rafah area, in southern Gaza, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement,\u201d the military said in an official statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two soldiers were\u00a0killed<\/a>\u00a0in the attack: Maj. Yaniv Kula, 26, and Staff Sgt. Itay Yavetz, 21, both of the Nahal Brigade and residents of Modi\u2019in.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn response, the IDF has begun striking in the area to eliminate the threat and dismantle tunnel shafts and military structures used for terrorist activity,\u201d Sunday\u2019s military statement added.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Jerusalem initially decided to close all crossings to Gaza and halt the delivery of humanitarian aid as outline in the truce, the move was reversed following pressure from Washington, U.S. news outlet\u00a0Axios<\/em>\u00a0and Israel\u2019s\u00a0Channel 12 News<\/em>\u00a0reported on Monday morning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unnamed Israeli officials confirmed to the outlets that the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza would resume as early as Monday morning.<\/span><\/p>\n

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, leader of the Otzma Yehudit Party, had called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday to \u201cfully resume combat in the Gaza Strip with maximum force\u201d in response to the truce violation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe false illusions that Hamas will change its ways, or even adhere to the agreement it signed, are proving, as expected, to be dangerous to our security. The Nazi terrorist organization must be completely destroyed\u2014and the sooner, the better,\u201d said Ben-Gvir.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who heads the Religious Zionism Party, responded with one word, tweeting Sunday afternoon: \u201cWar.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Under the ceasefire deal, Hamas was required to return all 28\u00a0hostage bodies<\/a>\u00a0it held by Oct. 13. So far, it has transferred to Israel only 12. The Palestinian terrorist organization is also\u00a0refusing\u00a0<\/a>to disarm and intends to remain the ruling party in Gaza during an interim period, both in violation of Trump\u2019s 20-point Gaza peace plan unveiled on Sept. 29.<\/span><\/p>\n
