Photo by Yona Groisman.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">If he had not withstood intense international and domestic pressure during the seven-front war against Iran and its proxies, particularly Hamas, \u201cthere would be no Israel,\u201d Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on the Standpoint With Gabe Groisman podcast produced by JNS in his first in-depth interview since the Oct.10 Gaza ceasefire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Israeli premier said that the Jewish state, with U.S. help, \u201csmashed the Iran axis,\u201d reshaped the Middle East and paved the way to \u201cfinish off\u201d Hamas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWhen you\u2019re in the eye of the storm, you have to decide if you\u2019re going to be swept by the storm or you\u2019re going to be a rock in the storm,\u201d the Israeli premier told me on Sunday in his Jerusalem office. Had Israel been \u201cswept in the storm,\u201d he added, it \u201cwould have suffered an enormous defeat, and America would have suffered an enormous defeat.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIt would have been a triumph for the Iran axis if we accepted all the pressures that were put on us, both from abroad and from inside, domestic pressure by the deep state, by the left and others,\u00a0to stand still,\u201d Netanyahu said, \u201cbasically surrender to Hamas demands.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Had the Jewish state yielded, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah would still be alive, Bashar Assad would still run Syria, and the Iranians would still \u201clord it\u201d over the region, \u201cthinking that they\u2019re going to have, in two seconds or in two minutes, atomic bombs to annihilate everyone inside,\u201d according to Netanyahu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe reason I could withstand the storm is that I knew that if I capitulated to it,\u00a0there would be no Israel,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s as simple as that, and when you\u2019re in a leadership position, you have to do what is not only what is right but what is absolutely necessary. So I had no qualms about that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Trump plan<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Addressing the proposed international force slated to oversee Gaza\u2019s stabilization as part of U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/jns.org\/full-text-trumps-comprehensive-plan-to-end-the-gaza-conflict\/(opens%20in%20a%20new%20tab)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plan<\/a>, Netanyahu put Hamas on notice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe\u2019re willing to give it a try, but if not, as President Trump has said, it\u2019s going to be done one of two ways,\u201d he said. \u201cEither the easy way, with the international force, or the hard way, with Israel, and it\u2019ll be done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu said that Jerusalem would only accept participants in the international stabilization mission that are \u201c<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/netanyahu-israel-will-set-its-own-red-lines-on-intl-forces-deployed-under-trump-peace-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">acceptable to Israel<\/a>,\u201d suggesting that he refuses to repeat what he calls the \u201cfailure of the U.N. forces that were put into place in Lebanon after 1978.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"content\" class=\"content-alignment\">\n<div id=\"watch-description\" class=\"yt-uix-button-panel\">\n<div id=\"watch-description-text\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Israeli PM Netanyahu just put Hamas on notice: &quot;We can do this the easy way or the hard way&quot;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pGVbvx0U7cY\" width=\"680\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talks tome Gabe Groisman on Oct. 26. 2025.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu declined to name the nations that might be part of the acceptable list.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe\u2019re talking to them right now, and I think it\u2019s better that we talk to them confidentially,\u201d he said. \u201cI think you can also guess which nations are not going to be there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Israeli premier insisted that Israel emerged \u201ca lot stronger\u201d as a result of the Oct. 7 war, now officially called the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/redemption-war-israeli-govt-approves-new-name-for-fighting-sparked-by-oct-7-attacks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">War of Redemption<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cNot on Oct. 7, when we had this horrible massacre,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u201cBut if you look at where Israel was before the Oct. 7 attack\u00a0and where it is today, we\u2019re actually stronger.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe are rightly considered the strongest power in the Middle East,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve smashed the Iran axis.\u00a0We\u2019ve exposed Iran for not being the superpower\u00a0and the overbearing power that intimidated the entire region and beyond.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Asked why the Trump initiative to end the Gaza war was \u201cthe right deal at the right time,\u201d Netanyahu said that Israel had two goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe wanted first to get all our live hostages back,\u201d he said. \u201cNobody believed we could. We did, but everybody assumed that we would only get them on Hamas\u2019s terms, which means get out of Gaza, allow them to reorganize, allow them to rearm, allow them to make Gaza an enormous threat to Israel again. And I wouldn\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Instead, the 20 living hostages held in Gaza were released on Oct. 13 \u201cin one swoop and with Israel staying in, so that we can enforce, if necessary, disarmament and demilitarization,\u201d Netanyahu said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Hammered out with Netanyahu\u2019s close confidant and top negotiator, Ron Dermer, the Israeli strategic affairs minister, the agreement was a product of intense military pressure and high-stakes diplomacy, Netanyahu said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe went into Gaza City and put the knife\u2014the military knife\u2014to Hamas\u2019s throat in their last stronghold, Gaza City, and President Trump and his team, along with Ron Dermer, put together a 20-point plan, which effectively isolates Hamas,\u201d he said. \u201cHamas wanted to isolate us. We isolated them and got the deal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIf we don\u2019t finish off Hamas, it\u2019ll cast a shadow for sure,\u201d he said. \u201cSo we intend to finish them off.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Expanding the Abraham Accords<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu said that the war strengthened both Israel\u2019s regional standing and the 2020 Abraham Accords, noting that Arab states \u201cstuck with Israel\u201d throughout the war and that new normalization efforts are advancing quietly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">He recalled that one of the reported reasons that Hamas launched the Oct. 7 massacre was to block Saudi Arabia from signing on to the Abraham Accords. \u201cAre we going to see Saudi Arabia back at the table soon with Israel?\u00a0Well, I hope so,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI\u2019d rather not engage in public proclamations.\u00a0I don\u2019t think that does any useful thing,\u201d he said. \u201cI think either there is a mutual interest or there isn\u2019t, and I think there is, actually, stronger than ever.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Far from being derailed by the Gaza war, the Abraham Accords were reinforced by it, according to Netanyahu. \u201cWe have an opportunity to expand them to other countries,\u201d he said, cautioning skeptics to avoid the distraction of \u201csurface noise.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI\u2019m telling you from below the surface that there are important advances that we\u2019re making. I hope they succeed,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I think they have a chance to succeed because of the emergence and predominance of Israeli power.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu said that Turkey and Qatar must be confronted with the question, \u201cAre you on our side or are you not on our side?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cYou shouldn\u2019t be swept away by naivete. If you can get them on your side, completely good. If not, recognize who you\u2019re dealing with and don\u2019t be swept away with rose-colored glasses,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu described Turkey as \u201cvery hostile to Israel and to Zionism in recent years\u201d and said that Qatar is \u201cinvolved on U.S. campuses\u201d and its channel\u00a0<em>Al Jazeera<\/em>\u00a0is \u201cpoisoning the minds of billions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Still, he credited Doha for its role in the Trump deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI\u2019ve said this to the Qataris. I said, \u2018I appreciate your help in getting the hostages out, but I also recognize the things that we are very concerned with, and we\u2019d like you to move away from those and become a positive partner,&#8217;\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/me.jnsi.org\/uploads\/2025\/10\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-10-26-at-14.06.39-1-scaled.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks with Gabe Groisman in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office in Jerusalem, Oct. 26, 2025. Photo by Yona Groisman.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>U.S.-Israel alliance<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The prime minister credited Trump with being \u201ca full partner\u201d and giving Israel the strategic space to finish what it started.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The U.S. president\u2019s recent visit to the Knesset \u201cswept all Israelis and many around the world,\u201d Netanyahu said. He described Trump\u2019s\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/watch-trump-addresses-knesset\/\">speech<\/a>\u00a0as \u201ca fusion of two things that was absolutely remarkable and unforgettable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">It communicated both \u201cthe depth of the alliance\u201d between Israel and the United States and the \u201cstrength of America under President Trump coming back to the world scene, becoming a dominant power, shaping events and helping change the Middle East together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">For Netanyahu, Trump\u2019s address carried a personal message too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cHe told me he was surprised by the strength of the support for me, because he\u2019s reading these fake polls that are coming out in our so-called mainstream media,\u201d the prime minister said. \u201cHe told me this. \u2018What I saw in the Knesset was massive support for you, Bibi.&#8217;\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Israeli premier also addressed the complicated texture of U.S.\u2013Israel relations and the periodic tensions that arise between even close allies. He pushed back against claims that one side dominates the other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe have a great alliance of partners,\u201d he said. \u201cI was in Washington a few weeks ago, and they said, \u2018Netanyahu controls America and America\u2019s defense policy.\u2019 And then it flipped. \u2018America controls Netanyahu, and it controls Israel\u2019s defense policy.\u2019 Neither argument, neither statement, is true.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIsrael is an independent country,\u201d he said. \u201cThe United States is definitely an independent country, and we are partners. We\u2019re not a proxy. We\u2019re not a subservient power.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe\u2019re an independent state, and we fashion our own security policy and follow it,\u201d he said. \u201cWe defend ourselves by ourselves, we decide what is dangerous for us, and we act accordingly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu stressed that Israel does not seek permission for preemptive strikes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIf you attack us, we attack you immediately back. But if you prepare an attack, we go and wipe you out. We just did in\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/katz-to-idf-destroy-remaining-60-of-hamas-terror-tunnels\/\">Gaza<\/a>, as we do in Lebanon,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re not asking permission from our American friends. We just tell them that\u2019s what we\u2019re doing, and that\u2019s fine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThat\u2019s the way it should be,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">For Netanyahu, Israeli independence reinforces rather than undermines the alliance. \u201cWhat\u2019s good for America,\u201d he told me, is \u201ca strong and independent Israel, because that\u2019s the anchor of security in the Middle East.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIf Israel weren\u2019t here\u2014a stronger Israel wasn\u2019t here\u2014there wouldn\u2019t be a Middle East,\u201d he said. \u201cIt would collapse under Iran in two seconds, and they know that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/me.jnsi.org\/uploads\/2025\/09\/54822870430_122092ebe7_o-scaled.jpg\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>President Donald Trump speaks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Oval Office after a joint press conference announcing the U.S. peace plan for Gaza, Sept. 29, 2025. Photo by Daniel Torok\/White House.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Support from home<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Asked what toll two years of war, political strife and unrelenting international pressure have taken on him, Netanyahu said, \u201cI had great support first from my family, first and foremost from my wife, who\u2019s been my rock through thick and thin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">He added that \u201cequally,\u201d he has received support from \u201cthe soldiers of Israel and the people of Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The \u201cvast majority of the people and almost every single soldier I met during the war,\u201d told him, \u201cPrime Minister, keep going. Don\u2019t stop. Don\u2019t surrender,\u201d Netanyahu said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cYou\u2019re serving a larger cause and a larger purpose. It goes back to the millennium dream of not only establishing a Jewish state,\u00a0an independent Jewish state in our ancient homeland, here in Israel, in Judea, Samaria\u00a0and the rest of the land of Israel,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIt goes back to the fact that our generation now is charged with preserving that dream,\u00a0keeping it going, assuring its vitality,\u201d Netanyahu said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI think I had great support,\u201d he said. \u201cYou may have thought that I was isolated, but I didn\u2019t feel that way.
