<\/a>\u2018It\u2019s like 1939,\u2019 says wife of Israeli whose nose was broken in attack NYPD probing as hate crime<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\nAaron Bandler, JNS Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The New York City Police Department is probing an assault that took place at 12:48 p.m. on Monday in front of the kosher eatery Mr. Broadway in midtown Manhattan as a potential hate crime, the department told JNS.<\/span><\/p>\n Responding to a 911 call, NYPD officers saw a man with \u201cinjuries to the right side of his face.\u201d The victim was subsequently taken to Mount Sinai Beth Israel in stable condition, the department said. \u201cThere is no arrest, and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Rivi Ben Noon Glickstein told JNS that the attacker noticed her husband\u2019s\u00a0kippah<\/em>\u00a0and shouted at him, \u201cWhat is your religion? What is your religion?\u201d When he ignored the assailant and kept walking, the man threw his\u00a0kippah<\/em>\u00a0to the ground and spat on it, she told JNS.<\/span><\/p>\n After her husband, Rami Glickstein, 58, picked his\u00a0kippah<\/em>\u00a0up from the ground, the other man began punching him \u201ca lot, very, very strongly,\u201d said Rivi Glickstein. \u201cMy husband couldn\u2019t fight against him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Bystanders came over to help, and the police were called. Her husband was hospitalized, and doctors found \u201cblood in the brain\u201d and a broken nose, she told JNS.<\/span><\/p>\n Rivi Glickstein said her husband was released and though he \u201cwasn\u2019t feeling so well\u201d on Tuesday, they decided to go to a restaurant in New York City, which the Israeli couple has been visiting as part of a nine-day trip.
