Photo: REUTERS\/Stringer<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Hamas is increasingly preparing for what it sees as an imminent Israeli attempt to assassinate senior leaders abroad, urging members to tighten personal security as the group simultaneously\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/10\/30\/new-gaza-rises-anti-hamas-militias-backed-israel-claim-local-rule-vow-fight-qatar-turkey-iran-forces\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">works to consolidate its weakened position in Gaza<\/a>\u00a0and reassert control over the enclave.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">According to the Arabic newspaper\u00a0<em>Asharq Al-Awsat<\/em>, Hamas officials reported rising concern over additional Israeli strikes on the Palestinian terrorist group\u2019s top echelon abroad in the wake of last week\u2019s\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/11\/23\/who-was-tabtabai-hezbollahs-military-leader-killed-by-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">killing of Hezbollah commander Haitham Tabtabai<\/a>\u00a0and September\u2019s operation in Qatar targeting Hamas\u2019s senior leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Despite US \u201creassurance messages\u201d to several parties \u2014 including mediators in Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt \u2014 that further strikes on senior Hamas members abroad would not be repeated, the group\u2019s leadership says it \u201cdoes not trust Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThere are expectations of a new assassination attempt with the Israeli government\u2019s efforts to obstruct the second phase of the ceasefire agreement and its claim that the movement has no intention of advancing toward a deal,\u201d the Palestinian terrorist group said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Hamas members reportedly received new instructions requiring all fixed meetings at a single location to be canceled, with leaders instead holding irregular gatherings at rotating sites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Meanwhile,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/12\/04\/anti-hamas-gazan-clan-leader-reported-killed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the head of an armed Palestinian faction opposing Hamas in Gaza died<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday while mediating an internal dispute between families and groups within the militia,\u00a0dealing a setback to Israeli efforts to support Gazan clans against the ruling Islamist group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Yasser Abu Shabab, a Bedouin tribal leader based in Israeli-held Rafah in southern Gaza, had led one of the most prominent of several small anti-Hamas groups that emerged in the enclave during the war that began more than two years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Following the incident, Hamas said in a statement that the fate of anyone who \u201cbetrayed their people and homeland and agreed to be an instrument in the hands of the occupation [Israel]\u201d was inevitable, accusing Abu Shabab of \u201ccriminal acts\u201d that amounted to a \u201cflagrant deviation from national and social consensus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Abu Shabab\u2019s death would be a boost to Hamas, which has branded him a collaborator and ordered its fighters to kill or capture him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe occupation that could not protect its own agents will be unable to protect any of its collaborators, and anyone who undermines the security of their people and serves their enemy is destined to fall into the dustbin of history, losing all respect and standing in society,\u201d the terrorist group said in its statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Gaza\u2019s Popular Forces confirmed that its leader died of a gunshot wound as he intervened in a family quarrel, and dismissed as \u201cmisleading\u201d reports that Hamas was behind Abu Shabab\u2019s killing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Ghassan al-Dahini, who could assume leadership of the group following the incident, pledged to continue Abu Shabab\u2019s project and resist Hamas by establishing an alternative to the terrorist group\u2019s rule.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWith God\u2019s help, and following my brother Yasser\u2019s plan, we will return as we were \u2014 more determined and stronger,\u201d al-Dahini said in a statement, according to Hebrew media. \u201cWe will keep fighting with every last ounce of strength until every final terrorist is gone.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cToday, Hamas will see its true face \u2014 the one the world should have recognized long ago. We will restore hope to all Palestinians, to all free people, to the oppressed, and to everyone who believes in peace,\u201d he continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Rafah has been the scene of some of the worst violence during the ceasefire, with residents reporting gunbattles on Wednesday that left four Israeli soldiers wounded.
