<\/a>Coalition partners back Netanyahu on opposition to Gaza Executive Board members<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\nJNS Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s right-wing coalition partners on Saturday rallied behind the premier after he voiced opposition to the composition of President Donald Trump\u2019s Gaza Executive Board.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe countries that resuscitated Hamas cannot be the ones that replace it. Those that support it and continue to host it even now will not be given a foothold in Gaza. Period,\u201d tweeted Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, referring to the inclusion of Qatar and Turkey.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cOur brave fighters did not risk their lives in a tremendous national mobilization just to swap one problem for another,\u201d Smotrich wrote. \u201cThe prime minister must insist on this, even if it requires managing a dispute with our great friend and with President Trump\u2019s envoys.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The\u00a0Gaza Executive Board<\/a>, led by the United States and composed of officials from countries such as Turkey, Qatar and Egypt, \u201cruns contrary to [Israel\u2019s] policy,\u201d Netanyahu\u2019s office said on Saturday evening.<\/span><\/p>\n The announcement of its establishment \u201cwas not coordinated with Israel and runs contrary to its policy,\u201d Jerusalem\u2019s statement continued.<\/span><\/p>\n It added that Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar was instructed to discuss the matter with his American counterpart, Marco Rubio, who was\u00a0named<\/a>\u00a0on Friday as a founding member of the Executive Board.<\/span><\/p>\n According to Smotrich\u2019s post, \u201cthe original sin\u201d was Jerusalem\u2019s decision against establishing \u201ca military administration, encouraging emigration and settlement and in this way ensuring Israel\u2019s security for many years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n That refusal, Smotrich continued, \u201cgave rise to strange, convoluted arrangements to manage civilian life in Gaza that are not Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.\u201d However, he added: \u201cEven under that assumption, there must be red lines.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir tweeted that he \u201csupports the prime minister regarding his important statement.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cGaza doesn\u2019t need any \u2018executive board\u2019 to oversee its \u2018reconstruction,’\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt must be cleared of Hamas terrorists, who must be destroyed, alongside encouraging large-scale voluntary emigration in line with President Trump\u2019s original plan.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Trump said in February that the United States should \u201ctake over\u201d Gaza and relocate its two million residents before clearing it and rebuilding.<\/span><\/p>\n Ben-Gvir on Saturday called on Netanyahu to instruct the Israel Defense Forces to \u201cprepare to return to the war in the Strip with overwhelming force, in order to achieve the war\u2019s central goal: Hamas\u2019s destruction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Amichai Chikli, Israel\u2019s diaspora affairs and combating antisemitism minister and a member of Netanyahu\u2019s ruling Likud Party, said Jerusalem \u201ccannot and will not accept\u201d Turkish influence on its southern border, tweeting: \u201cErdo\u011fan\u2019s Turkey is Hamas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan has turned his country \u201cinto a regional aggressor responsible for unprecedented massacres and brutal repression, from the Kurds in Afrin, Aleppo, and Deir Hafir, to Alawites and Druze,\u201d wrote Chikli.<\/span><\/p>\n The Gaza Executive Board includes members such as U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump\u2019s son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi and Egyptian General Intelligence Service\u00a0Director Maj. Gen. Hassan Rashad.<\/span><\/p>\n Fidan in July 2024 expressed \u201cdeep sorrow\u201d after top Hamas terrorist Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI learned with deep sorrow that my dear brother Ismail Haniyeh was martyred in Iran,\u201d Fidan wrote in a July 31, 2024, post on X.
