Photo: REUTERS\/Hollie Adams<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"post_content\">\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The BBC apologized on Tuesday night after at least four of its presenters failed to mention the murder of Jews in the Holocaust during the national broadcaster\u2019s coverage of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cBBC Breakfast\u201d presenter Jon Kay said on air Tuesday morning that Holocaust Remembrance Day was \u201cfor remembering the six million people murdered by the Nazi regime over 80 years ago.\u201d Several BBC broadcasts by some of its most well-known presenters included similar comments that omitted the mention of Jewish victims when discussing the Holocaust.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In one broadcast, \u201cBBC News\u201d presenter Martine Croxall also said Holocaust Remembrance Day is a day \u201cfor remembering the six million people who were murdered by the Nazi regime over 80 years ago.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">BBC World News presenter Matthew Amroliwala introduced a bulletin on his show with the same scripted line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">On the BBC Radio 4 program \u201cToday,\u201d presenter Caroline Nicholls discussed plans to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day and said in part: \u201cBuildings across the UK will be illuminated this evening to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, which commemorates the six million people murdered by the Nazi regime more than 80 years ago.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 gaEeqC\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIs the BBC trying to sever all ties with their Jewish listeners? Even on Holocaust Memorial Day, the BBC cannot bring itself to properly address antisemitism,\u201d the Campaign Against Antisemitism&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/antisemitism\/status\/2016106502499488072\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted<\/a>&nbsp;on X. \u201cThis is absolutely disgraceful broadcasting. BBC, we demand an explanation for how this could have happened.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"rebelltitem7\" class=\"rebellt-item latest-development col1\" style=\"text-align: left;\" data-id=\"7\" data-reload-ads=\"false\" data-is-image=\"False\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/news\/bbc-apology-holocaust-jews-report-latest?rebelltitem=7#rebelltitem7\" data-basename=\"latest-developments\" data-post-id=\"2675046726\" data-published-at=\"1769544389\" data-use-pagination=\"False\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The BBC addressed the mishap in a statement released late Tuesday.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" data-id=\"7\" data-reload-ads=\"false\" data-is-image=\"False\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/news\/bbc-apology-holocaust-jews-report-latest?rebelltitem=7#rebelltitem7\" data-basename=\"latest-developments\" data-post-id=\"2675046726\" data-published-at=\"1769544389\" data-use-pagination=\"False\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe \u2018Today\u2019 program featured interviews with relatives of Holocaust survivors, and a report from our religion editor. In both of these items we referenced the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust,\u201d the statement read in part, as cited by GB News. \u201c\u2018BBC Breakfast\u2019 featured a project organized by the Holocaust Educational Trust in which a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust recorded her memories. In the news bulletins on \u2018Today\u2019 and in the introduction to the story on \u2018BBC Breakfast\u2019 there were references to Holocaust Memorial Day which were incorrectly worded, and for which we apologize. Both should have referred to \u2018six million Jewish people\u2019 and we will be issuing a correction on our website.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said in a&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/HolocaustUK\/status\/2016167232141721666\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post<\/a>&nbsp;on X that the BBC\u2019s not mentioning Jews during its coverage of Holocaust Remembrance Day is \u201churtful, disrespectful, and wrong.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe Holocaust was the murder of six million Jewish men, women, and children. Any attempt to dilute the Holocaust, strip it of its Jewish specificity, or compare it to contemporary events is unacceptable on any day,\u201d she added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Danny Cohen, the BBC\u2019s former director of television, said the mistake, especially on Holocaust Remembrance Day, \u201cmarks a new low point\u201d for the broadcaster. He said the mishap will surely be hurtful to many in the Jewish community \u201cand will reinforce their view that the BBC is insensitive to the concerns of British Jews.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIt is surely the bare minimum to expect the BBC to correctly identify that it was six million Jews killed during the Holocaust,\u201d said Cohen, as cited by the&nbsp;<em>Daily Mail<\/em>. \u201cTo say anything else is an insult to their memory and plays into the hands of extremists who have desperately sought to rewrite the historical truth of history\u2019s greatest crime.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This year\u2019s Holocaust Remembrance Day&nbsp;marks the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp in 1945. On Tuesday,&nbsp;King Charles and the Queen Camilla lit candles at Buckingham Palace in honor of the annual commemoration and hosted a reception for Holocaust survivors and their families. Last year, King Charles, who is patron of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, became the first British monarch to visit Auschwitz on the 80th anniversary of its liberation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Tuesday was not the first time that the BBC has come under fire for its coverage of issues concerning the Jewish community or Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In February 2025, the BBC&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/02\/28\/bbc-apologizes-unacceptable-mistakes-gaza-documentary-admits-palestinian-interviewees-ties-hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apologized<\/a>&nbsp;for \u201cunacceptable\u201d and \u201cserious flaws\u201d in its documentary about Palestinian children living in the Gaza Strip, after it was revealed that the documentary\u2019s narrator was the son of a senior Hamas official.
