<\/a>Doctors Without Borders Admits Gaza Hospital Used by Militants, Halts Operations<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\nAlgemeiner Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n The international humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders has publicly acknowledged that armed individuals \u2014 many of them masked \u2014 were present inside the large compound of Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, citing intimidation of patients, arbitrary arrests, and suspected weapons movement as reasons for halting some of its work there.<\/span><\/p>\n The admission, buried in a rarely referenced\u00a0FAQ page on the group\u2019s website<\/a>\u00a0published last month, lends factual support to claims long asserted by Israeli authorities about the use of medical facilities by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists during the ongoing conflict in Gaza.<\/span><\/p>\n M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF), which is French for Doctors Without Borders, said it has suspended all \u201cnon-critical medical operations\u201d at Nasser Hospital as of Jan. 20, 2026, citing \u201cconcerns regarding the management of the structure, the safeguarding of its neutrality, and security breaches.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n MSF\u2019s admission\u00a0was first reported<\/a>\u00a0by independent analyst Salo Aizenberg.<\/span><\/p>\n In describing those \u201csecurity breaches,\u201d MSF stated that patients and its own personnel observed \u201carmed men, some masked, in different areas of the large hospital compound \u2026 not in areas where MSF has activities.\u201d It added that since the most recent ceasefire in Gaza, teams have reported a \u201cpattern of unacceptable acts,\u201d including the presence of armed men, intimidation, arbitrary arrests of patients, and \u201ca recent situation of suspicion of movement of weapons.\u201d The group said such conditions posed \u201cserious security threats to our teams and patients.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The hospital in Khan Younis \u2014 one of Gaza\u2019s largest and, until recently, few functioning referral centers in the densely populated territory \u2014 has been a flashpoint in the Israel-Hamas war since early 2024. After intense battles and an Israeli military operation that searched for hostages inside the complex, the hospital was rendered non-functional and later reopened.<\/span><\/p>\n For months, the Israeli government and military have claimed that Hamas and other armed groups used hospitals \u2014 including Nasser \u2014 as shelter and operational bases, allegations that Palestinian authorities and many humanitarian organizations have rejected. In February 2024, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesman Daniel Hagari said the military had \u201ccredible intelligence\u201d that Hamas held Israeli hostages at Nasser Hospital at one point and that there may have been bodies of hostages currently hidden there.<\/span><\/p>\n The Algemeiner<\/em>\u00a0has\u00a0previously documented claims<\/a>\u00a0acknowledged by the Palestinian Authority that Hamas summoned Gazans to the Nasser compound for interrogations and that militants threatened hospital staff.<\/span><\/p>\n Terrorists from both Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, an allied group in Gaza, have confessed that they\u00a0took over hospitals<\/a>\u00a0across the enclave, using the medical facilities to hide military activities, launch attacks, and\u00a0hold hostages<\/a>\u00a0kidnapped during their Oct. 7, 2023, invasion of and massacre across southern Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n In the FAQ disclosure, MSF did not explicitly identify the armed men or link them to specific groups.
