Photo by Chaim Goldberg\/Flash90<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">If there were an Olympic sport for self-pity in a flourishing country, Israel might finally take home the gold\u2014courtesy of its most comfortable citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In a March 27&nbsp;<span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/netta_se\/status\/2037325074844340497\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post on X<\/a><\/span>, Netta Seroussi\u2014a staffer at&nbsp;<i>Channel 12<\/i>\u2019s \u201cUvda\u201d (\u201cFact\u201d), hosted by bleeding-heart Ilana Dayan\u2014was clearly vying for the coveted medal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIn my area code, there isn\u2019t a single person who isn\u2019t thinking about emigrating\u2014some in practical terms, others as a wish,\u201d she wrote, with readers understanding full well that the reference was to Tel Aviv. \u201cIt\u2019s long since not just high-tech workers and doctors. Public-sector and third-sector employees, with no real employment prospects abroad, are willing to throw years of local experience into the garbage in order to give the next generation a different future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Never mind that this isn\u2019t how the rest of us, including residents of the White City, perceive the sentiment of our neighbors; if that\u2019s Seroussi\u2019s experience, so be it. But her follow-up rant revealed the real motive behind her observation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI think about my grandmother, Alisa, who spent weeks vomiting on a ship from Montevideo to reach the Promised Land, or about my grandfather, Dov, an Irgun activist who was a prisoner of Zion in Africa for four years,\u201d she stated, adding the clincher, \u201cOf everything on the long list of apologies that the state owes me, this is perhaps the most unforgivable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">One has to admire the sheer audacity of her words, even if her syntax leaves much to be desired. To invoke the trials and tribulations of her grandparents, who embodied the essence of Zionist history, to whine about her plight in the modern miracle of the Jewish state they helped to build goes beyond chutzpah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Worse than that, she actually believes that the state owes her multiple \u201capologies\u201d for failing to meet her expectations and those of her \u201carea code\u201d peers. Not the majority, mind you, but a narrow slice of society: urban, for the most part, economically secure and culturally influential.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Thankfully, her insulated bubble was burst by a slew of social-media followers who couldn\u2019t tolerate the spoiled-brat attitude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The following comments constitute a taste of the outrage on the part of Israelis who rejected her complaints:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul id=\"rte-b0a0b260-2ad8-11f1-a363-a556153729d9\" class=\"rte2-style-ul\">\n<li><strong>\u201cNo one owes you anything. Certainly not an apology. You\u2019re more than welcome to leave. Bye.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201c\u2018The state owes me an apology\u2019\u2026 that\u2019s where the failure is \u2026 No one owes me anything, and I\u2019m not a victim.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cYour grandfather fought so you could live in your own country\u2014and you want to leave and blame it? What would he think?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cIn my \u2018area code,\u2019 nobody\u2019s thinking about emigrating. There are challenges\u2014but also dedication and hope.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cYou should be asking your grandparents for forgiveness\u2014not the state asking you.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cWe see the problems\u2014and still don\u2019t think for a moment about giving up. The people of Israel live, thrive and endure.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In other words, outside the curated echo chamber of the likes of Seroussi, Israelis are doing what we always do: debate, grumble and persevere\u2014raising families at the highest rate in the Western world, and managing, against all odds, to sustain an upbeat mood under the constant strain of having to defend against enemies bent on wiping us off the map.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Seroussi\u2019s woe-is-me theatrics aside, Israel ranks eighth on the latest World Happiness Report. Evidently, the citizens polled neglected to align their answers about their overall well-being with the gloom and doom emanating from left-wing Hebrew-language TV studios.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Not only that. Surveys indicate that an overwhelming majority of Israelis back the war against Iran and its proxy Hezbollah in Lebanon\u2014despite having spent the past month running to bomb shelters throughout the day and wee hours of the night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Seroussi and her fellow moaners are free to view things differently. They\u2019re also at liberty to depart for what they imagine to be greener pastures abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Such prerogatives are among the many options taken for granted by the sniveling classes.
