<\/a>Kanye West Postpones Marseilles Concert Until Further Notice After Being Told He\u2019s \u2018Not Welcome\u2019 in French City<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h5>\nShiryn Ghermezian<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n American rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, announced on Tuesday that he was postponing his upcoming concert in Marseille, France, until further notice after its mayor said the Grammy winner was \u201cnot welcome\u201d to perform in the country\u2019s second-biggest city because of his \u201cunapologetic Nazism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Ye, 48, made the decision to call off the\u00a0June 11 show at the city-owned \u200bOrange Velodrome\u00a0\u201cafter much thought and consideration,\u201d he\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0on X. The announcement also came after French Interior minister Laurent Nu\u00f1ez vowed to explore \u201call possibilities\u201d to make sure the show would not move forward as planned, according to his office.<\/span><\/p>\n Just a week ago, Ye was\u00a0banned from entering the United Kingdom<\/span><\/a>\u00a0because of his \u2060past antisemitic comments and promotion of Nazism. He was scheduled to headline both days of London\u2019s Wireless Festival in July, but the festival was canceled after organizers faced widespread backlash for hiring Ye despite his antisemitic history.<\/span><\/p>\n The show in Marseille was Ye\u2019s only scheduled concert in France as part of\u00a0<\/span>a tour<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>that includes stops in India, Turkey, and Spain. The rapper \u200bhas already performed this year in Mexico City and California, where he was joined on stage at SoFi Stadium by Lauryn Hill, Travis Scott, and Ceelo Green. Ye has not performed in Europe since 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n Marseille\u2019s Mayor Benoit Paean said last month that \u200bYe was not welcome to perform in the city.\u00a0\u201cI refuse to let Marseille become a showcase for those who promote hatred and \u200bunapologetic Nazism,\u201d he\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0in a post on X.<\/span><\/p>\n Ye took out \u200ba full\u2011page advertisement in the\u00a0Wall Street Journal<\/em>\u00a0in January and\u00a0apologized<\/a>\u00a0\u2060for his past antisemitic behavior and remarks, which he blamed on untreated bipolar disorder and a \u201cfour-month long manic episode of psychotic, paranoid, and impulsive behavior\u201d in early 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n Last year, Australia banned Ye from entering the country after he released a song titled \u201cHeil Hitler,\u201d in which he praised Nazism and specifically Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
