Photo: REUTERS\/ Marko Djurica<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"post_content\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A jury member of the 79th Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday condemned the Hollywood film industry for \u201cblacklisting\u201d actors who have spoken out against Israel\u2019s military actions in the Gaza Strip during the country\u2019s war against Hamas terrorists controlling the enclave.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">At the festival\u2019s jury press conference, Cannes award-winning Scottish screenwriter Paul Laverty mentioned Susan Sarandon, Javier Bardem, and Mark Ruffalo, all three of whom have been outspoken in criticizing Israel\u2019s military campaign against Hamas in Gaza. Sarandon\u2019s character in \u201cThelma &amp; Louise\u201d is on the official 2026 Cannes poster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto lrv-a-font-body-m \"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe Cannes Film Festival [and] the wonderful poster they have,\u201d Laverty&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/xMdMUEkpf-g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;at the end of the press conference on Tuesday, held before the opening of the film festival in France. \u201cAbsolutely iconic. Brilliant. And isn\u2019t it fascinating to see some of them like Susan Sarandon, Javier Bardem, Mark Ruffalo blacklisted because of their views in opposing the murder of women and children in Gaza? Shame on Hollywood people who do that. My respect and total solidarity to them. They\u2019re the best of us, and good luck to them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto lrv-a-font-body-m \"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI just hope we don\u2019t get bombed now, because we\u2019ve got this poster in Cannes,\u201d the BAFTA winner added in conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto lrv-a-font-body-m \"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Sarandon was&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2023\/11\/22\/entertainment-industry-figures-continue-face-consequences-anti-israel-comments-gaza-war-divides-hollywood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dropped by her talent agency<\/a>&nbsp;for castigating Israel while participating in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York City in November 2023. At the protest, the Oscar winner&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2023\/11\/16\/actress-susan-sarandon-bashes-israels-military-campaign-hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused<\/a>&nbsp;Israel of war crimes, encouraged others to have the \u201ccourage to speak out\u201d in support of Palestinians, and compared the Hamas-led Oct. 7 massacre across southern Israel just weeks earlier to hardships Palestinians endure in Gaza.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto lrv-a-font-body-m \"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">She talked about the fallout with her agency during an interview in 2024, saying: \u201cI was dropped by my agency, my projects were pulled. I\u2019ve been used as an example of what not to do if you want to continue to work.\u201d Earlier this year, Sarandon further spoke about being shunned in Hollywood for her views about the Israel-Hamas war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI was fired by my agency, specifically for marching and speaking out about Gaza, for asking for a ceasefire. And it became impossible for me to even be on television,\u201d she&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nXVCx4RF1n4&amp;t=68s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;at a press conference in February before receiving a career achievement honor at the 40th Goya Awards in Spain. \u201cI don\u2019t know lately if it\u2019s changed, but I couldn\u2019t do any major film, anything connected with Hollywood. I found agents ultimately in England and in Italy, and I work there \u2026 I know this Italian director that just hired me \u2014 he was told not to hire me, so that\u2019s still recently. He didn\u2019t listen, but they had that conversation. The idea of attending to a festival where there\u2019ll be contradiction and nuance and beauty and inspiration. It knocked me out, to be honest.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Before the start of the Cannes Film Festival last year, more than 350 members of the film industry \u2014 including Bardem, Sarandon, Ruffalo, and Richard Gere \u2014 signed an open letter condemning the festival\u2019s \u201csilence\u201d over Israel\u2019s military campaign in Gaza targeting Hamas terrorists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Emmy-winning actress Hannah Einbinder recently criticized Hollywood\u2019s silence about the Israel-Hamas war during a guest appearance on an episode of Zeteo\u2019s \u201cBeyond Israelism\u201d podcast that was released in full on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIt pisses me off,\u201d&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/zeteo.com\/p\/beyond-israelism-hannah-einbinder-mahmoud-khalil-isabella-hammad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;the \u201cHacks\u201d actress. \u201cBecause I\u2019m sitting here with [Algerian-Palestinian activist] Mahmoud [Khalil], who has so much to risk and who has risked so much who has sacrificed so much \u2026 And I look at these people who have absolutely every privilege imaginable to mankind and they cannot utter a single word. I guess it makes me naive, but I cannot understand it. I really can\u2019t understand it.
