Photo by Lionel Hahn\/Getty Images.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In his typically acerbic style of dry humor, comedian-pundit Bill Maher marked the 78th anniversary of Israel\u2019s Declaration of Independence with a hard-hitting monologue that promptly went viral.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">He opened the May 15&nbsp;<span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BHOJCbRJu28\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">episode<\/a><\/span>&nbsp;of his eponymous&nbsp;<i>HBO<\/i>&nbsp;show \u201cReal Time\u201d by saying that \u201ceveryone must either wish [the Jewish state] a happy birthday or admit they\u2019re antisemitic.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">He didn\u2019t mention that Zohran Mamdani\u2014who openly mourned the&nbsp;<i>nakba<\/i>, the \u201ccatastrophe\u201d of Israel\u2019s establishment in 1948\u2014perfectly fits the latter label. Nevertheless, he went on to let the likes of New York City\u2019s mayor have it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cNow, it\u2019s everyone\u2019s right in a free country to be antisemitic,\u201d he said. \u201cBut enough with hiding behind Israel or Zionism or [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu. If you think, as so many do now, that when it comes to human rights, Israel is the monster country of all time, you either don\u2019t read or you don\u2019t care about your own hypocrisy, because there are so many worse places. But that\u2019s where we are these days. No Jews, no news.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">For a full eight minutes, he let the hypocrites have it, highlighting the fact that \u201cno one blinks\u201d when an editor from the progressive magazine&nbsp;<i>The American Prospect<\/i>&nbsp;calls Israel a \u201cbrainwashed psychopathic death cult that might need to be nuked to save the human race.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">He then pointed out that Jew-bashing is the one thing that the left and right have in common these days, mentioning Tucker Carlson, on the one hand, and&nbsp;<i>The New York Times<\/i>, on the other. Though he failed to bring up the Gray Lady\u2019s latest&nbsp;<span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/jns-tv\/israel-undiplomatic\/how-the-new-york-times-fueled-a-new-blood-libel-against-israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">blood libel<\/a><\/span>\u2014penned by Pulitzer Prize-winner Nicholas Kristof, who printed the lunatic lie that Israel trains dogs to sodomize Palestinian prisoners\u2014he did stress that ignoramuses on both sides of the spectrum see Israel as \u201cthe only country in the world doing anything bad.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Yes, he said, taking a dig at the condition of education in the United States, \u201cI see why the meathead manosphere and the Code Pink people are on the same page, because they both went to high school in America and they don\u2019t know anything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Unfortunately, according to Maher, \u201cJew-hatred isn\u2019t just acceptable now; it\u2019s cool. Celebrities love it and make it trendy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Ditto concerning cowardly politicians, whom he chastised for \u201cindulging, rather than correcting, their brainwashed-by-TikTok constituents who now have an unfavorable view of Israel,\u201d and for \u201cnot telling their woke idiots that Israel isn\u2019t a colonizer or an apartheid state or committing genocide.\u201d Oh, and for not admonishing the younger generation, \u201cIf you brats had to spend a week anywhere in the Middle East other than Israel, you would understand what liberalism is not.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The above are snippets of his lengthy rant, the rest of which was equally unflinching. Given the political, sociological and cultural climate he was describing so accurately, it\u2019s not surprising that the clip exploded\u2014shared widely on social media by pro-Israel influencers and broadcast on Israeli TV channels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">As worthy of praise as Maher might be for his wise and witty words, however, something is disturbing about the elation they elicited. It\u2019s one thing to give credit to those brave enough to tell the truth about Israel and antisemitism. It\u2019s quite another to be grateful for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Indeed, Jews shouldn\u2019t need to treat intellectual honesty as heroism.
