Iran\u2019s Presidential website\/WANA (West Asia News Agency)\/Handout via REUTERS<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Iran, the United States and mediator Pakistan all said on Saturday that progress had been made in talks on ending almost three months of war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Iran said it was focused on finalizing a memorandum of understanding after its top officials met Asim Munir, the army chief of Pakistan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Pakistani army said the negotiations had resulted in \u201cencouraging\u201d progress towards a final understanding. \u201cAn MOU is being fine-tuned,\u201d said a Pakistani security official who was briefed on Munir\u2019s visit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Sources have told Reuters the proposed \u200cframework would unfold in three stages: formally ending the war, resolving the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and launching a 30-day window for negotiations on a broader agreement, which can be extended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">US President Donald Trump said he would discuss the latest Iran draft agreement with advisers and might make a decision on Sunday on whether to resume attacks on Iran, Axios reported, citing an interview with Trump.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cEither we reach a good deal or I\u2019ll blow them to a thousand hells,\u201d Axios quoted him as saying.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">TRUMP TO SPEAK WITH MIDDLE EAST LEADERS<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Trump, whose ratings have been hit by the war\u2019s impact on energy prices for US consumers, said on Friday he would not attend his son\u2019s wedding this weekend, citing Iran among the reasons he planned to stay in Washington.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">An Arab official told Reuters Trump would hold a phone call on Saturday with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Turkey and Pakistan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Pakistan\u2019s mediation push aims to narrow differences between Iran and the US after weeks of war that have left the vital Hormuz waterway closed to most shipping despite a nervous ceasefire, upending global energy markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">US Secretary of State Marco Rubio repeated Trump\u2019s demands: \u201cIran can never have a nuclear weapon. The straits need to be open without tolls. They need to turn over their enriched uranium.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Rubio, who is visiting India, said some progress had been made and work was continuing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cEven as I speak to you now, there\u2019s some work being done. There is a chance that, whether it\u2019s later today, tomorrow, in a couple days, we may have something to say,\u201d Rubio told reporters in New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Iran denies it is pursuing nuclear weapons and says it has a right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes. It has demanded supervision of the strait, an end to the US blockade on its ports and the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil sales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said: \u201cThe trend this week has been towards a reduction in disputes, but there are still issues that need to be discussed through mediators.
