<\/a>Trump says deal with Iran completed, \u2018will bring peace and security to the whole region\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\nJNS Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the peace deal with the Iranian regime has been completed.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the U.S. Naval blockade,\u201d the president stated just before 5:30 p.m. in Washington. \u201cShips of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose government has served as a key mediator, wrote on X that the United States and Iran \u201chave reached\u201d a peace deal providing for an \u201cimmediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon,\u201d with a signing ceremony scheduled for Friday in Switzerland.<\/span><\/p>\n Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed in a televised interview that the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington has been finalized and will be signed on Friday in Switzerland, saying Iran had \u201cincorporated all our important positions into the draft,\u201d according to the\u00a0Tasnim News Agency<\/i>, a semi-official outlet associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).<\/span><\/p>\n He said the U.S. naval blockade would be lifted starting Monday night and that the agreement provides for the \u201cimmediate and permanent end of the war and military operations on various fronts, including Lebanon,\u201d adding that a 60\u2011day follow\u2011on negotiation period would cover sanctions relief, Iran\u2019s nuclear program and a reconstruction mechanism.<\/span><\/p>\n About an hour later, the president said that \u201cthis great deal will bring peace and security to the whole region.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cMany presidents have tried to make peace with Iran, and all have failed before me,\u201d he said. \u201cThe leaders of the region have, for the first time, found a president who can help them achieve real peace. With the opening of the strait upon the signing of the deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the region and the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The U.S. president made the announcements on his birthday, June 14.<\/span><\/p>\n Earlier in the day, the Israeli prime minister wished him a happy birthday. He had not commented on Trump\u2019s announcement at press time, nor had multiple other Israeli officials, including its top diplomats in Washington and New York.<\/span><\/p>\n Sharif thanked Qatar for its support in the mediation and praised the \u201cvisionary leadership\u201d of Saudi Arabia and Turkey for their contributions to reaching the agreement, adding that mediators will convene meetings this week ahead of the signing.<\/span><\/p>\n Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, secretary-general of the United Nations and a frequent critic of the Jewish state, lauded the deal. \u201cI warmly congratulate the United States and Iran for having reached a peace deal that provides for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as well as a framework for further negotiations,\u201d he stated. \u201cThis represents a critical step towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) stated that he was \u201cpleased to hear the memorandum of understanding with Iran to allow the Strait of Hormuz to open has been agreed to.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI will be watching closely the ensuing negotiations regarding Iran\u2019s nuclear program and other matters,\u201d he stated. \u201cI am somewhat concerned that Iran\u2019s view of the agreement seems different than what the American negotiating team is claiming. Under our law, any nuclear deal with Iran will be sent to Congress for review and a vote.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI look forward to reviewing the final product, and I believe it is imperative that the architect of the deal, Vice President Vance and his negotiating partners, be part of the process in presenting the final deal to Congress,\u201d he wrote.
