United States, according to the Prime Minister\u2019s Office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIsrael updated the United States and the American representative in Lebanon in advance regarding the destruction of the infrastructure,\u201d said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz in a joint statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe tunnel, which was over 200 meters [650 feet] long and more than 25 meters [80 feet] deep, contained hundreds of weapons and several launch silos intended to target the territory of the State of Israel and its citizens,\u201d they noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cIDF commanders and fighters will remain in the security zone in Southern Lebanon and will continue to destroy terrorist infrastructure, remove threats to northern communities and safeguard the security of Israel\u2019s citizens,\u201d the statement concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Also on Sunday, the IDF&nbsp;<span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/news\/israel-news\/idf-attacks-hezbollah-command-centers-in-lebanons-south\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">attacked<\/a><\/span>&nbsp;three Hezbollah command centers and a launch pad in Southern Lebanon in response to the Iranian proxy\u2019s violation of the truce agreement, the IDF stated separately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Israel and Lebanon signed a U.S.-brokered&nbsp;<span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/news\/israel-news\/netanyahu-historic-understandings-with-lebanon-a-massive-blow-to-hezbollah-iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">framework agreement<\/a><\/span>&nbsp;on Friday aimed at removing Hezbollah from Southern Lebanon and dismantling \u201cassociated infrastructure\u201d in the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Hezbollah renewed its rocket and drone attacks from Southern Lebanon on Israel on March 2, following the targeted killing in Tehran of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of \u201cOperation Roaring Lion\u201d on Feb. 28.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In response, Jerusalem launched a broad aerial campaign against Hezbollah targets and expanded military operations in Lebanon aimed at preventing cross-border attacks on Israeli communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Following the resumption of hostilities, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun vowed to do \u201cthe impossible\u201d to stop cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, and moved to outlaw the Iranian proxy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Israeli and Lebanese officials subsequently held five rounds of direct talks at the U.S. State Department in Washington, resulting in the framework of understandings that was reached on Friday and is conditioned on Hezbollah withdrawing from the south.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span class=\"LinkEnhancement\"><a class=\"Link\" style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/news\/israel-news\/katz-idf-will-remain-in-security-zone-until-hezbollah-disarmed-throughout-lebanon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">Katz<\/a><\/span>&nbsp;said on Saturday that Jerusalem had instructed the IDF to prepare for a \u201cprolonged stay\u201d in the security zone in Southern Lebanon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe key principle established in the framework is that there will be no Israeli redeployment from Southern Lebanon, no withdrawal whatsoever, as long as the Hezbollah terrorist organization has not been disarmed throughout Lebanon, and the safety of northern residents is guaranteed,\u201d he stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Knesset member Nissim Vaturi, a member of Netanyahu\u2019s ruling Likud Party, told JNS on Monday that \u201cwe only rely on IDF soldiers, who are doing a wonderful job\u201d fighting Hezbollah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Referring to the two pilot zones where the IDF will withdraw and the Lebanese Armed Forces are to disarm Hezbollah under the framework, Vaturi said there would be \u201ca problem\u201d if the LAF failed to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThey need to deal with Hezbollah. If they succeed, fine,\u201d he told JNS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Fellow Likud MK Sasson Guetta told JNS he hoped the deal would hold \u201cbecause thanks to this agreement there will no longer be Hezbollah.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThat\u2019s in the interest of both sides\u2014both theirs and ours.
