<\/a>\u201cAuschwitz\u201d and nursing uniforms in Palestine demonstration<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\nOfer Maimon<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Pro-Palestinian activists staged a high-profile demonstration in central Stockholm on Saturday, using a replica of the Auschwitz entrance gate with the word \u201cGaza\u201d instead of the infamous phrase \u201cArbeit macht frei.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The demonstration, organized by the group Palestine Demonstration Stockholm, featured a theatrical performance in which Gazan mothers and babies were pursued by a man dressed in a red Netanyahu mask, as well as a leather coat of the type worn by the Gestapo, and with an armband with a Star of David where the Gestapo instead wore swastikas on the armbands. \u201cNetanyahu\u201d was also seen waving a wad of banknotes.<\/span><\/p>\n Several of the placards read \u201cDoctors are not targets; stop killing our doctors.\u201d The activists demanded the immediate release of Abu Safiya, who has been held in Israeli custody since September 2024, as well as the release of Marwan Barghouti and better protection for medical personnel in Gaza. Marwan Barghouti is a Fatah leader who was sentenced in 2004 to five life sentences plus 45 years for incitement and involvement in murder.<\/span> \u201cNetanyahu\u201d then led the demonstration march, followed by people in medical and nursing uniforms of the same type that caused debate after two doctors from the healthcare company Meliva and other healthcare personnel appeared in them at a demonstration on July 2 that blocked the entrance to Karolinska University Hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n These healthcare workers wore the modified \u201cAuschwitz gate\u201d and in the demonstration march, in addition to images of Marwan Barghouti, also a person with a mask that was supposed to represent Israel\u2019s Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, dressed as a butcher, who in the organizer\u2019s videos of the demonstration lunges with something that is supposed to represent a butcher\u2019s knife.<\/span><\/p>\n The same organizer behind yesterday’s demonstration also organized the demonstration outside Karolinska, but it has not yet been confirmed whether the people dressed in healthcare uniforms in Saturday’s demonstration were the same people, or even if they are employed in healthcare.<\/span> The protest has provoked strong reactions from Swedish Jewish representatives. Aron Verst\u00e4ndig, lawyer and chairman of the Central Jewish Council in Sweden, strongly condemns the incident.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBelittling the Holocaust in the way that happened at yesterday\u2019s demonstration in Stockholm is incredibly distasteful and disgusting.
