Photo: REUTERS\/Clodagh Kilcoyne<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A British charity dedicated to exposing and combatting antisemitism across the United Kingdom is asking organizers of the upcoming Reading Festival in England to cancel a scheduled performance by the Irish rap group Kneecap because of their alleged promotion of antisemitism and terrorist organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe UK should not be platforming artists who spread hate,\u201d Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) said in a statement to\u00a0<em>The Algemeiner<\/em>\u00a0on Friday. \u201cHigh-profile cultural events have a responsibility to exercise judgment over who they choose to promote. For a festival that prides itself on inclusivity and community, the decision to host Kneecap is profoundly at odds with the values it claims to champion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The charity added that it will \u201ccontinue to write to all venues and festivals where Kneecap is scheduled to perform.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The members of Kneecap are Liam \u00d3g \u00d3 hAnnaidh, Naoise \u00d3 Caireall\u00e1in and JJ \u00d3 Dochartaigh, but they are better known by their respective stage names Mo Chara, M\u00f3gla\u00ed Bap and DJ Pr\u00f3va\u00ed. Kneecap has previously denied accusations of promoting antisemitism and the proscribed terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah. Meanwhile, they have continuously\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/04\/29\/irish-rap-group-kneecap-denies-supporting-hamas-hezbollah-while-again-accusing-israel-genocide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused Israel<\/a>\u00a0of committing a \u201cgenocide\u201d in the Gaza Strip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The annual music festival in Reading will take place this year from Aug. 27-30. The Belfast rap trio will perform on the last day of the festival, which has a star-studded lineup that includes Raye, Charli XCX and Florence + The Machine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In CAA\u2019s letter to festival organizers, which was shared with\u00a0<em>The Algemeiner<\/em>, the charity gave several examples in which members of Kneecap have been accused of promoting antisemitism and terror groups. In one noted instance, \u201cimagery circulated online by or associated with the group has included a graphic depicting a swastika superimposed on the Israeli flag\/the Jewish Star of David.\u201d Making comparisons between Israel and Nazi Germany is given as an example of antisemitism within the working definition by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), a definition which has been formally adopted by the UK government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In February 2025, the band shared a photograph on social media that shows one of its members reading a book of statements by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, CAA noted. Both Hamas and Hezbollah have been designated by the UK and US as terrorist organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">O hAnnaidh was previously charged in the UK with a terror offense for his actions at\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DannyMMorris\/status\/1914284860664934576\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a gig in north London<\/a>\u00a0in November 2024. During the performance, he draped a Hezbollah flag over his shoulders while saying \u201cUp Hamas, up Hezbollah,\u201d both of which are organizations banned in the UK under the Terrorism Act 2000. However, the charges against him\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/10\/07\/uk-prosecutors-appeal-dismissal-of-terrorism-charge-against-kneecap-rapper\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">were dismisse<\/a>d in September 2025.\u00a0<span class=\"highlight\" data-qa-component=\"highlight-text\">Kneecap\u00a0<\/span>said the flag was thrown on stage during the performance and that they \u201cdo not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">At the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California last year, Kneecap\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2025\/04\/28\/irish-rap-trio-kneecap-cut-major-german-festivals-loses-us-visa-anti-israel-statements-coachella\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">projected an anti-Israel message<\/a>\u00a0on stage that said: \u201cIsrael is committing genocide against the Palestinian people. It is being enabled by the US government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes. F\u2013k Israel. Free Palestine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">During their performance at the 2024 Reading Festival, Kneecap displayed a message on a video screen that criticized the British government for allegedly \u201cenabling a genocide in Gaza.\u201d Bap described Belfast as being \u201cstill under British occupation\u201d and added, \u201cthere\u2019s a worse occupation happening right now in Palestine.\u201d The group then led the crowd in chanting \u201cFree! Free!
