<\/a>Boy George Claims Bandcamp \u2018Bowed to the Pressure of Antisemites\u2019 After Its Removes Pro-Israel Song \u2018We Will Dance Again\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n Shiryn Ghermezian British pop icon Boy George accused the online music distribution platform Bandcamp on Tuesday of \u201cbowing to the pressure of antisemites\u201d after it removed his new pro-Israel song \u201cWe Will Dance Again\u201d as well as his profile.<\/span><\/p>\n The Culture Club singer, 65, made the accusation a day after he called the digital distributor a \u201cbunch of c\u2013ts\u201d and criticized their policy on songs with artificial intelligence, which Boy George used to create his new track.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe Will Dance Again\u201d<\/a>\u00a0defends Israel\u2019s military actions in the Gaza Strip against Hamas terrorists who orchestrated the Oct. 7, 2023, deadly invasion of southern Israel. Its lyrics include: \u201cYou say genocide, I say war \/ When you\u2019re attacked, that\u2019s what the army\u2019s for \/ Does it get ugly? You bet it does \/ When I know you wanna kill every last one of us.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n On Monday, Boy George shared in a video message that Bandcamp deleted his profile. \u201cSo anyone trying to get a copy of \u2018We Will Dance Again\u2019 will have to wait until I record it and find a way to put it out,\u201d he\u00a0said<\/a>. \u201cAlso they\u2019ve taken money, so hopefully Bandcamp will refund that money. It\u2019s very disappointing and obviously, if you\u2019ve got the track already, make videos, play it on the internet. Play it everywhere, get it heard.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Bandcamp said\u00a0the track was removed because of how it was created. The platform has a\u00a0policy<\/a>\u00a0that does not allow music \u201cthat is generated wholly or in substantial part by AI.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n In response, Boy George criticized the platform in a lengthy\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0shared on X. He said Bandcamp allowed originally allowed him to upload \u201cWe Will Dance Again\u201d and \u201cit stayed there for over 24 hours which mean the haters alerted them or they did not like the message,\u201d he claimed. The singer, who has been open about using AI for the song, said, \u201cit\u00a0seems obvious that despite the claims of @bandcamp there is a shitload of AI assisted music all over the website and to deny this is not only misleading but moronic.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt appears they have bowed to the pressure of antisemites because the system, just like any digital platform cannot tell if something is AI. Or maybe the problem is internal but I don\u2019t buy the no AI policy because @bandcamp has it in droves,\u201d he added.\u00a0\u201cLeave the creative process to the artists. Even if you don\u2019t agree with it. Sometimes the message is greater than the rules and we sold a ton. Some people paying a thousand pounds and many dropping 100 pounds. Hopefully that money will be refunded in full to those of you who payed and could not download after they shut a b\u2013ch down. I live for this total grass roots moment! Rock and F\u2013king Reggae roll!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n After the release of \u201cWe Will Dance Again\u201d in late July and backlash regarding its pro-Israel lyrics, Boy George\u00a0pulled out<\/a>\u00a0of his scheduled appearance in the production of \u201cJesus Christ Superstar\u201d at the London Palladium. He also\u00a0parted ways<\/a>\u00a0with Tony Pontius, the manager of his indie record label Boy George Presents (BGP), after the latter was \u201cunequivocal\u201d in refusing to release \u201cWe Will Dance Again.\u201d Boy George\u2019s manager Paul Kemsley defended the artist in a\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday. Kemsley said about the singer: \u201cI am completely behind him. For better [or] for worse. Always. His courage to speak up for what he believes in should be respected not attacked.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n In a statement to\u00a0The Sun,<\/em>\u00a0Boy George said \u201cWe Will Dance Again\u201d is \u201cpro-peace\u201d and was inspired by\u00a0his visit<\/a>\u00a0several weeks ago to London\u2019s Nova Music Festival Exhibition, where he met people impacted by the Hamas-led terrorist attack on Oct. 7, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe Will Dance Again\u201d is now available for download on the e-commerce platform\u00a0Payhip<\/a>.
