<\/a>Four Men Plead Guilty to Arson Attack on Jewish Ambulances in London<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\nReuters <\/strong>and<\/em> <\/span>Algemeiner Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Four young British men on Friday admitted to an arson attack on community ambulances in London, the first of a spate of incidents \u200btargeting the capital\u2019s Jewish community this year.<\/span><\/p>\n The four ambulances belonging to Jewish \u200cvolunteer emergency service Hatzola were set ablaze on March 23 while they were parked near a synagogue.<\/span><\/p>\n In other attacks in April and May, a synagogue and a former synagogue were targeted, as was Persian-language \u200bmedia organization Iran International and a memorial wall dedicated to people killed in \u200bIran.<\/span><\/p>\n British police said at the time that they were investigating possible \u2060Iranian links to those arson attacks, with pro-Iranian group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin \u200bal-Islamiyya (HAYI) claiming responsibility for the ambulance attack and some others.<\/span><\/p>\n The SITE Intelligence website \u200bhas said HAYI had been behind similar fires in Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, Judex Atshatshi, 18, and Saif Ali, 18, appeared at London\u2019s Old Bailey court on Friday and pleaded \u200bguilty to destroying or damaging the Hatzola ambulances and being reckless as \u200bto whether life would be endangered.<\/span><\/p>\n The Community Security Trust (CST), a charity which provides security for Jewish \u200ccommunities, \u2060welcomed the guilty pleas.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThis was an appalling antisemitic act against a volunteer ambulance service providing emergency medical assistance to people of all backgrounds across north London, simply because those ambulances belonged to a Jewish charity,\u201d the CST said.<\/span><\/p>\n Prosecutors said \u200bat a previous \u200bhearing that web \u2060searches for \u201chow much do ambulances cost\u201d and \u201chow long does it take for police to [investigate] arsons\u201d were found on Iqbal\u2019s phone \u200bafter his arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n A fifth defendant, 18-year-old Subhan Ahmed, pleaded not \u200bguilty to \u2060a charge of assisting an offender relating to the disposal of a vehicle used in the incident.
