<\/a>Rabbi Consultant on \u2018Nobody Wants This\u2019 Criticizes Adam Brody for Accusing Israel of \u2018Genocide\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n Shiryn Ghermezian<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n A rabbi who served as a consultant on the first season of Netflix\u2019s \u201cNobody Wants This\u201d blasted the show\u2019s lead actor, Adam Brody, in an Instagram video on Tuesday after the latter accused Israel of committing a genocide in the Gaza Strip.<\/span><\/p>\n In a new interview<\/a> with GQ<\/em> magazine, Brody, who is Jewish, spoke publicly for the first time about his thoughts on the Middle East conflict.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cPut me down as thinking it\u2019s a genocide,\u201d the \u201cOC\u201d star told the publication. \u201cPut me down as wanting a free Palestine. It\u2019s awful that it\u2019s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it\u2019s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Brody also said he wished for another presidential administration to \u201ccorrect some of these policies that are helping that situation be as awful as it is.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Brody previously described himself to The New York Times<\/em> as \u201cnot religious at all, a nonbeliever.\u201d He told the same publication he \u201cbarely got bar mitzvahed and retained nothing from it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n In the rom-com series \u201cNobody Wants This,\u201d Brody plays Los Angeles-based Rabbi Noah Roklov, who falls in love with a non-Jewish podcaster named Joanne, played by actress Kristen Bell. The main tension in the show\u2019s first season was whether Noah could be in a relationship with a non-Jew and still continue on his pursuit as a rabbi. The show\u2019s third season premieres on Oct. 22.<\/span><\/p>\n Rabbi Steve Leder said he was the \u201ctechnical advisor\u201d for season one of \u201cNobody Wants This.\u201d His job was to ensure that the show portrayed Judaism and Brody\u2019s rabbi character authentically and respectfully. In an Instagram video<\/a>, Leder, who is also the former senior rabbi of Wilshire Boulevard Temple in California, said Brody\u2019s accusation about a genocide in Gaza was \u201ctruly shocking.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cNot only because of your misuse and mischaracterization of the word genocide, there is no genocide in Gaza, there are genocides in other countries happening, but you failed to mention any of them,\u201d Leder said. \u201cYou by your own admission are a relatively ignorant Jew and your ignorance really showed the other day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAnd by the way, being so flippant about a word like genocide, is disgusting,\u201d he added. \u201cHere\u2019s some more technical advice: If you know nothing about something, you should say nothing about it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cNobody Wants This\u201d is loosely based on the life of its creator, Erin Foster, who fell in love with a Jew \u2014 record-label owner Simon Tikhman \u2014 and converted to Judaism for him.
