{"id":28948,"date":"2015-10-17T18:00:14","date_gmt":"2015-10-17T16:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=28948"},"modified":"2015-10-16T08:06:12","modified_gmt":"2015-10-16T06:06:12","slug":"28948","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=28948","title":{"rendered":"Ancient teeth found in China challenge modern human migration theory"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.reunion68.com\/Biuletyn\/img\/cnn.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"15%\" \/><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2015\/10\/15\/china\/china-teeth-cave-nature\/?sr=cnnitw\" target=\"_blank\">Ancient teeth found in China challenge modern human migration theory<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>By Georgia McCafferty, for CNN and Shen Lu, CNN<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr style=\"height: 15px; background: #d0e6fa; width: 710px;\" \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.cdn.turner.com\/cnnnext\/dam\/assets\/151015150614-china-teeth-cave-2-exlarge-169.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"90%\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>These 47 teeth, estimated to be between 80,000 and 120,000 years old, were found in a cave in Dao county, Hunan province in China.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333333;\">(CNN)\u2014Scientists in southern China have discovered human teeth dating back at least 80,000 years &#8212; 20,000 years earlier than modern humans were previously believed to have left Africa to migrate around the world.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The 47 teeth were found in a cave in Daoxian, in China&#8217;s Hunan province, and are the strongest proof yet that modern humans first migrated from Africa to Asia 80,000 to 120,000 years ago, according to a study published in the journal, Nature.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;This is stunning, it&#8217;s major league,&#8221; Michael Petraglia, an archaeologist from the University of Oxford in the UK, who was not involved in the study, told Nature. &#8220;It&#8217;s one of the most important finds coming out of Asia in the last decade.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>Out of Africa<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The widely accepted theory of modern human migration, known as &#8220;Out of Africa,&#8221; is based on available scientific evidence that indicates modern humans originated in Africa and made their first successful migration to the rest of the world in a single wave between 50,000 and 70,000 years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">These teeth challenge that theory, both in terms of the timing of the first migration from Africa and whether a different group of modern humans evolved separately in Asia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>One of the lead researchers, Liu Wu, on an<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em> excavation trip to the Daoxian cave in 2014.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin-right: 20px;\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.cdn.turner.com\/cnnnext\/dam\/assets\/151015145550-china-teeth-cave-medium-plus-169.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"40%\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;The fossils reveal that 80,000 years ago, the first modern humans appeared somewhere in southern China,&#8221; said one of the study&#8217;s lead researchers, Liu Wu, from China&#8217;s Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology (IVPP). &#8220;We believe that southern China probably was a central area for modern evolution.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Liu told CNN that although the research hasn&#8217;t yet explored where the Daoxian people were from &#8212; and whether they originated from Africa or China &#8212; he was inclined to believe they evolved from local ancient humans, suggesting that human evolution &#8220;didn&#8217;t happen all at once.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Maria Martin\u00f3n-Torres, a researcher at University College London and one of the co-leads of the study, said the new finds open up a raft of questions to be answered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;What does this mean? What is the origin of this population (of people in China)? And what is their fate?&#8221; she asked. &#8220;Some people really now have to reconsider models. Maybe there&#8217;s not only one (migration) out of Africa, (maybe) there are several out of Africa.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;And also we have to understand what happened in Asia,&#8221; she added. &#8220;These populations, did they really evolve also for a while outside Africa?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The research also raises questions about how and why modern humans reached Asia earlier than Europe, where the earliest modern human remains found so far are around 45,000 years old<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\"> Liu said the research group plans to extract DNA from the teeth samples to shed more light on the origins of the Daoxian people.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong>Human remains left by predators<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The teeth were found in a cave system along with the remains of mammals, including a extinct giant panda, and other animal species.
