Jack Engelhard’s<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

So after my most recent column here in which I bewailed excessive Israeli compassion for its enemies, like the tendency to offer prompt medical attention for Arab terrorists, I heard back positively from many in my corner, but also from the emphatic naysayers \u2013 Jews afflicted by moral equivalency syndrome.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

They say that being compassionate at all times begins in our Scriptures. Yes, justice, justice shall you pursue. That\u2019s our Torah.\u00a0<\/span>But what about the other parts of justice \u2013 you know Moses and what he did to Egypt in retaliation for Egypt\u2019s abuse of his people, the Hebrews?\u00a0<\/span>They say that David was a man of peace. He sure was. But when attacked, David was a man of war. Read up on this. Read his Psalms. Try Psalm 59, for example, and find: \u201cRescue me from my foes, Dear Lord\u2026rescue me from bloodthirsty men who surround me\u2026Destroy them!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Get the picture? (Never mind how times have not changed across 3,000 years.)<\/span><\/p>\n

They say that compassion is woven in our character\u2026agreed\u2026and that compassion has served us well over the centuries. Baloney.\u00a0<\/span>They say that if we do the measure for measure thing, why then, oh dear, we become like them; we stoop to their level and risk losing our humanity.\u00a0<\/span>Well, humanity \u2013 there has not been much of that going around these days. As for the risk of becoming like them \u2013 here is what I say.<\/span><\/p>\n

I say it is worth a shot.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe if we behave (savagely) like them, if only once in a while, finally they will take the hint and leave us alone.
\n<\/span>Mario Puzo figured that out while writing \u201cThe Godfather.\u201d Get the rival \u201cfamilies\u201d before they get you\u2026and make the rest of them \u201cfear you.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Settling scores, it\u2019s called. \u00a0<\/span>Suppose, therefore, that Bibi gets a message out with these words: \u201cMurdering Arabs is a national duty.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Does that make you squirm? Me, too.<\/span><\/p>\n

That is not Bibi, of course. That\u2019s Abbas: \u201cMurdering Jews is a national duty.\u201d Yes Abbas said that and nobody cringed, nobody in the entire world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nobody squirmed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Suppose Bibi announces that he does not want \u201cfilthy Arab feet\u201d stomping holy Jewish ground.\u00a0<\/span>Bibi never says this. Abbas did about \u201cfilthy Jewish feet.\u201d The world shrugs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Suppose Israelis declare days of rage because Arabs stole Jewish land?\u00a0<\/span>No days of rage from the Jews. Only from the Palestinian Arabs.\u00a0<\/span>Suppose Israelis begin stabbing, stoning and shooting Arabs helter-skelter.<\/span><\/p>\n

That is totally against Jewish practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

But when the Palestinians practice it, CNN and the BBC and The New York Times will find words and pictures to justify Palestinian murderous behavior.\u00a0<\/span>If the shoe were on the other foot, would the Israelis get the same generosity? Or is murdering Jews a Palestinian Arab entitlement?\u00a0<\/span>John Kerry justified Palestinian rage on the settlements, the Jewish settlements.\u00a0<\/span>Arabs, Mr. Secretary, are in a rage everywhere, about everything.\u00a0<\/span>Naturally none of my recommendations has a chance and truly it is against my nature to desire such brutishness on the part of my people.<\/span><\/p>\n

Besides, what would the neighbors say?<\/span><\/p>\n

But I must say to my Liberal friends, those who asked, \u201cJack Engelhard, where is your heart\u201d \u2013 did you ask John Kerry the same question?\u00a0<\/span>Did you ask him why he equated Arab killers with Israeli victims, and why was he not OUTRAGED when he heard Abbas saying what he did?\u00a0<\/span>Saying, \u201cMurdering Jews is a national duty.\u201d \u00a0<\/span>Nobody squirmed? That\u2019s right. Nobody squirmed. Nobody cringed.\u00a0<\/span>Did you ask Mrs. Sun at the EU and Mr. Moon at the UN \u2013 where was their condemnation for that remark and for the Arab bloodlust that followed?\u00a0<\/span>Take it from someone who knows.\u00a0<\/span>Worry less about Jewish humanity. It is still in place. Worry more about their humanity, whatever there is of it.<\/span><\/p>\n
